Responsibilities
The Senior Communications Specialist plays a key role in strengthening Northside Hospitals reputation and visibility through proactive media relations and strategic communications. This position leads efforts to cultivate relationships with journalists craft compelling stories and secure positive media coverage that highlights the hospital systems services achievements and addition to driving external visibility the role supports internal stakeholders by developing strategic content and communications across multiple channelsincluding digital editorial and social media to align with Northsides brand and organizational goals.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Development and Media Relations
- Collaborate on and lead the development of compelling strategic content that promotes Northside Hospital services across social media website video news media and other channels.
- Collaborate on media relations activities including drafting news releases coordinating media outreach responding to media inquiries providing on-call support and supporting crisis communications response with consistent messaging.
- Manage relationships with reporters and media contacts identifying story opportunities to proactively pitch to promote Northside Hospital initiatives and achievements.
- Coordinate photography/video when needed to support media relations activities.
Internal Communications
- Manage production and distribution of digital and video editions of employee newsletter and internal communications.
- Partner with talent leaders to create content supporting recruitment retention and employee engagement initiatives.
Brand Marketing
- Partner with internal teams and external agencies to develop and implement marketing initiatives that build awareness and drive service usage.
- Work with technical teams to ensure digital content is optimized functional and measurable across platforms.
- Collaborate with business units and departments to maintain continuity from strategy through execution.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues adopting digital strategies and tools.
- Contribute to a positive innovative and collaborative team culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Communications Marketing Journalism Digital Media or related field.
- Ten (10) years experience in marketing communications and/or journalism.
- Excellent writing editing and storytelling skills with attention to detail.
- Creative thinker with the ability to translate complex information into clear engaging content.
- Must have advanced knowledge and skills in using the following desktop programs: Microsoft Office.
PREFERRED
- Familiarity with health care marketing and HIPAA-compliant communications preferred.
- Experience in a hospital marketing and/or public relations department
- Photography and/or video experience
- Web writing and knowledge of SEO
- Skilled in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.
