Job Summary:This full-time position combines academic personal and post-secondary guidance for 9th-grade students. The ideal candidate is a compassionate communicator organized multitasker and advocate for student success in both academic and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
9th Grade Counseling Duties
- Serve as the primary counselor for 9th grade students supporting academic progress social-emotional well-being and high school adjustment.
- Conduct at least two individual counseling meetings per year with assigned students.
- Provide academic counseling and monitoring for students including those on academic probation.
- Offer limited personal/social counseling and make appropriate referrals for additional support.
- Assist with 9th grade orientation and parent information sessions.
College Counseling Support
- Collaborate with the college counseling teams to plan and execute workshops presentations and events for 9th graders.
- Assist with college fairs essay workshops mock interviews and scholarship programming.
- Maintain and update counseling data systems such as Bright Futures and NCAA eligibility portals.
- Support students in creating resumes reviewing college application materials and understanding post-secondary planning processes.
- Conduct college planning meetings and write letters of recommendation as needed.
- Contribute to newsletters and other communication materials for students and families.
- Support standardized testing logistics.
Departmental & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain counseling records and document student/family/teacher interactions.
- Collaborate with teachers staff and parents to ensure student well-being and academic success.
- Attend relevant professional development for school and college counseling.
- Participate in assigned school activities and committees.
- Occasionally work extended hours for evening events or programs.
- Other duties may be assigned; duties may vary according to grade level
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Masters degree in Guidance Counseling or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of school counseling experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common counseling platforms.
- Flexibility self-motivation and a student-centered mindset.
- Commitment to supporting the mission ofWest Memphis School District.
