Created in 2015 to align lighten and modernize infrastructure the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Your role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Telecommunications Toronto; you will be monitoring maintaining and improving the corporations network infrastructure. You will be responsible with first/second level network support for corporate network switches routers wireless access points wireless controllers firewall and VPN appliances.

You will work closely with the departments senior staff to document troubleshooting procedures. Collect network statistics and report on network health by proactively monitoring network logs and alarms.

Key Tasks:

  • Receive trouble tickets from our Network Operation Centre and take care of client network requests.
  • Troubleshoot possible network connectivity or infrastructure related problems.
  • Provide root cause analysis on any network outage.
  • Work with network monitoring tools such as Cisco Prime SNMPc Solarwinds and LiveAction.
  • Monitor our network infrastructure and react to alarms.
  • Outage Management: investigation communication triage and escalation.
  • Participate in production changes and turnovers across the corporations network infrastructure.
  • Supplement existing or update documentation as the environment is modified.
  • Create trouble cases with vendors and service providers to diagnose network issues.
  • Communicate with clients in a polite and timely manner.
  • Reconfigure replacement hardware ship and coordinate the installation with regional staff.
  • Work as a team member with other technical staff.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Bachelors degree or college diploma in computer science or other appropriate field as required in the role along with three (3) years of proven experience performing network operations duties; or relevant experience and proven ability in IT network administration and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Cisco Internetworking (switching/routing).
  • Proficiency with Cisco products such as but not limited to: Cisco 65xx 45xx 3xxx 29xx Nexus 2K 5K 7K ASR/ISR routers.
  • Proficiency with Cisco IOS IOS-XE IOS-XR and NX-OS.
  • Proficiency with various network protocols such as IP TCP UDP FTP ARP QoS VoIP OSPF DNS Spanning tree ECMP VPC 802.1q 802.3ad GRE.
  • Proficiency with firewall concepts and load balancers.
  • Proficiency with cloud computing and virtualization concepts.
  • Proficiency with Cisco wireless controllers and access points.
  • Proficiency with Fortinet and Juniper firewall systems.
  • Proficiency with Juniper switching/routing & Junos OS.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring systems and technologies NETFLOW IP SLA.
  • Proficiency with packet analysis. (wireshark & netscout).
  • Proficiency with BMC Remedy ticketing system.
  • Other vendor certifications are an asset.
  • General knowledge of IT security.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Ability to analyze network log information.
  • Ability to write documentation and technical specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and urgent requests.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new skills and work well in a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal clients.
  • Independent self-motivated and responsible.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Willingness to be on call 24-7 (including weekends and holidays) on a rotating basis.
  • Strong communication skills are required to effectively communicate technical and non-technical issues to clients service providers and other Broadcast Technology groups as well as to keep management apprised of the status of all activities and assignments.
