JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) working in close collaboration with clinical staff and technology developers in a hospital environment. The position is focused on the development and optimization of artificial intelligence and computer vision algorithms for surgical instrument recognition applied to real-world clinical workflows.
The candidate will contribute to innovative R&D activities aimed at improving the identification classification and tracking of surgical instruments supporting advanced digital solutions for operating rooms and central sterilization units. The work will be carried out in a highly translational setting combining applied research software development and validation in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
This position is part of a strategic project at the interface of healthcare artificial intelligence and medical technology with a strong emphasis on practical impact robustness of solutions and close interaction with end users in a hospital setting.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate will be primarily based in the Central Sterilization Unit of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol and will act as a key on-site technical profile. Working closely with the technical team of HealthTech Innovations the candidate will be responsible for the practical deployment training and validation of the MedVision Pro system in real clinical conditions.
Main responsibilities include the definition and optimization of the operational workflow of the MedVision Pro product within the sterilization unit ensuring that the solution is fully aligned with existing processes and clinical requirements. The candidate will carry out systematic image acquisition of surgical instruments generating high-quality visual datasets under real working conditions.
A significant part of the role will involve data annotation and labeling of surgical instruments supporting the creation of robust and reliable training datasets. Based on this data the candidate will participate in the training and iterative improvement of artificial intelligence models in coordination with the central development team.
Additional responsibilities include the generation and fine-tuning of image processing filters as well as the testing and validation of the AI-based solution both from a technical and operational perspective. The candidate will contribute to identifying errors limitations and improvement opportunities feeding this information back to the development team to ensure continuous refinement of the system.
Overall the role combines applied AI work close interaction with clinical staff and hands-on validation in a hospital environment playing a critical role in bridging technology development and real-world clinical use.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
The ideal candidate should have a solid technical background in computer science engineering or related disciplines with demonstrated knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence particularly in computer vision techniques. Experience in image analysis object detection classification algorithms and applied machine learning will be highly valued.
Knowledge of surgical instruments and clinical workflows in the operating room or central sterilization units is required as the position involves working closely with healthcare professionals and applying AI solutions in real hospital environments.
The candidate must be fluent inCatalan and Spanish both written and spoken in order to interact effectively with clinical staff and multidisciplinary teams within the hospital setting.
Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential as the role involves collaboration with engineers researchers nurses and physicians. The candidate should be proactive adaptable and capable of working in a highly interdisciplinary and translational research environment.
Availability to regularly commute to the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujolis required as part of the work will be carried out on-site in close coordination with clinical units.

- The position is full-time (1628h) with a 39-hour work week offering flexible working hours when required by project needs.
- Occasional travel may be required including punctual visits to HealthTech Innovations offices in Pineda de Mar or participation in national-level demonstrations and project-related activities.
- The position includes 23 days of paid annual leave in addition to 5 days for personal matters 2 days for Easter 2 days for Christmas providing a good worklife balance
