Job Summary

The Educational Assistant in the Response to Need (RTN) program works with the academic case manager to support students with the work for their classes. Students in RTN are receiving enhanced support services to help them stay up to date with theiracademics during a period of acute need. Support is both 1:1 and small group. The Educational Assistant may also help out with other tasks that are involved in running the Personalized Learning Programs (PLP) department when they are not working directly with students. Position begins immediatelyopen until filled.

This position is governed by theHSS/NEA-NH Union Agreement.

Thisis a school year position with an hourly range of $19.05 to $24.99 depending on education and experience.

General Purpose:

Support teaching staff in achieving learning objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve appropriate levels of instruction.

Reports to:

Building Administrator

Supervises:

N/A

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position may include some or all of the following:

  • Work with students within the classroom environment or other environments within the school setting to assist in completion of lessons and implement goals and objectives.
  • Provide individual and/or small group instruction as determined by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist substitutes with teachers sub plans class lists attendance and photocopying.
  • Assist with clerical duties as assigned.
  • Provide support in the department resource center.
  • Monitor department equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings as requested.
  • Assist teacher(s) in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior or monitoring specific behavior management plans.
  • Accompany students on field trips or to job sites.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills assemblies and break periods.
  • Guide independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Participate in in-service programs as assigned.
  • Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
  • Recognize that student progress and records are confidential and must be discussed only with appropriate school personnel.
  • Recognize that all communication with parents and other third parties regarding students shall not be the responsibility of the assistant and shall be conducted only by the professional staff.
  • Perform other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must comply with all SAU 70 District policies and building / department rules procedures practices and objectives.

Evaluation:Evaluation will be completed by the Building Administrator or designee. Evaluation will be based on professional performance and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities of the position as defined.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Associates Degree or equivalent

Necessary Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development
  2. Knowledge of specific subject area content as required in the job assignment
  3. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction
  4. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

NH Para-educator certification preferred.
