General Statement of Duties:
This position is responsible for setting safe engaging and challenging climbing routes at MRDs indoor climbing wall. The Routesetter supports route turnover goals contributes to a positive climbing experience for patrons of all abilities and works collaboratively with the Climbing Wall Leader to maintain a high-quality climbing program.
Essential Duties:
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Collaborate with the Climbing Wall Leader to meet route turnover and grade distribution goals
- Set engaging fun and safe climbing routes for a wide range of abilities
- Participate in forerunning and ongoing routesetting skill development
- Assist with routesetting-related tasks including hold stripping hold washing and wall maintenance
- Follow and model best practices for risk management and working at height
- Receive and apply constructive feedback
- Act as a positive role model and demonstrate behaviors consistent with MRDs mission
- Maintain a professional courteous and team-oriented attitude
- Communicate effectively with the Climbing Wall Leader and Climbing Wall Supervisor
- Complete additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Experience & Knowledge:
- Minimum of one (1) year of climbing experience
- Previous routesetting experience required
- Lead climbing experience preferred
- Experience working safely at height in a physically demanding environment
- Enthusiasm for learning sharing knowledge and climbing
- Ability to work in a fast-paced highly variable environment
- Effectively communicates verbally and in writing
- Exhibits initiative responsibility and accountability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Ability to build positive working relationships with diverse individuals
Education or Training:
- Willingness to complete required risk management and routesetting training
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Physical Conditions:
- Ability to bend twist push pull reach and work at height
- Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and repeatedly
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods
Schedule Expectations:
- Routesetting typically occurs weekdays between 5:30 AM and 3:00 PM
- Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for competitions or special events
Compensation: $15.90 - $17.44 per hour
