GE Aerospace operations have been part of the Beavercreek community for over 70 years! Our Beavercreek facility manufactures gas turbine tubes ducts and manifolds and also has complex machining fabrication and investment casting capabilities. Product engineering new product development and testing are performed on site. This facility also does repair and overhaul of tubes ducts and manifolds. We have been awarded OSHAs highest safety rating.

As the Manufacturing Engineer within Dayton Cores & Castings engineering team you will be responsible for process engineering and development of ceramic core finishing and quality review related to the proprietary ceramic core production processes. You will lead engineering experiments/analysis parameter/tolerance establishment and process standards and documentation to drive improved process control and ultimately final product yield improvement. You will collaborate very closely with Product Owners within cores engineering team as well as business leaders to drive operational and quality improvements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Process Engineer for Setter Fire Review owning the finishing and acceptability review of turbine airfoil ceramic cores including final hand finishing and visual inspection.
  • Monitor and control daily productionof turbine airfoil cores through the Setter Fire Review process including:
    • Material and equipment testing
    • Planning and analysis of process development trials
    • Process set-up and optimization
    • Tooling selection and support
    • Documentation control
    • Operator qualification strategies
  • Evaluate and improve operator performancein core finishing processes by:
    • Reviewing training content and effectiveness
    • Observing techniques and execution at the workstation
    • Providing feedback and recommendations for improvement
  • Assess operator qualification and training completeness ensuring alignment with quality requirements and verifying that product quality meets established standards.
  • Support a three-shift operation with some flexibility in work hours required to conduct training process observations and operator assessments across all production shifts.
  • Develop a strong understanding of core feature criticality by product applying a high level of attention to detail to:
    • Assess the impact of defects or nonconformances on product acceptability
    • Determine reworkability of specific defects or core features
  • Use process data and SPC toolsto monitor process health visualize trends and identify emerging issues so that potential problems are addressed proactively.
  • Plan and execute engineering experiments (DOE)to understand the influence and interaction of process variables and parameters and use findings to optimize process set-up and improve yield of the final product.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Process Control Planfor the Setter Fire Review area clearly defining relationships between process inputs process outputs and critical product characteristics.
  • Drive continuous improvement of finishing equipment and methods which may include:
    • Identifying and implementing automation opportunities
    • Supporting or leading capital investment projects in the area
  • Author and maintain clear process documentation including Manufacturing Operation Sheets with:
    • Defined parameters and tolerances
    • Standard work steps
    • Key points for quality and inspection
    • Collaborate closely with Product Owners and cross-functional teamsto:
      • Investigate and identify root causes of yield and quality issues
      • Implement corrective and preventive actions within your area of responsibility
      • Share learnings and best practices across the broader team

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years experience leading process development in Aerospace automotive or chemical engineering industries)

Desired Characteristics

  • Educational emphasis in Mechanical Chemical Industrial Material Science or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience leading process development in an Aerospace Automotive or Chemical Engineering industry as a hands-on process engineer.
  • Experience in engineering additive or plastic materials including raw materials material properties formulation development and control and testing methods.
  • Experience in using statistical tools/concepts to analyze data (e.g. Minitab Cpk VBA ANOVA Excel) to lead data-driven problem solving and true root cause identification.
  • Experience independently planning executing and analyzing engineering design of experiments.
  • Experience leading small teams (peers or direct reports) and influencing cross-functional stakeholder teams to achieve consensus on direction.
