Job Summary

Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. Job Summary: Oversee and coordinate the planning organizing training and leadership necessary to achieve stated objectives in service food quality and sanitation in a team environment in the dining hall at Water Street Mission. Supervises the food inventory preparation and waste management processes for the mission. Provides spiritual leadership to all staff volunteers and guests.

FLSA: Full-time Exempt

All Water Street Mission staff must be:

  • Willing to sign the Water Street Ministries Statement of Faith
  • A current and active member and/or regular attendee of a local church.
  • Able to fully support the Water Street Missions core values and ministry philosophy.

Reports to: Vice President Logistics & Operations

Essential Functions:

Culture and Values

  • Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve communicating hope and dignity.
  • Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity.
  • Encourage restoration in the lives of coworkers and guests recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers.
  • Provides spiritual leadership and fosters a spiritual environment in the food services department.
  • Has a desire to unlock the God-given potential within each guest volunteer and staff member.

Role Specific

  • Works in collaboration with the VP of Logistics & Operations creating annual operating budget
  • Completes monthly review and analysis of department audit trails for accuracy and controlling costs.
  • Actively collaborates with all WSM ministries and the Leadership Team to align food services with the vision of the mission offering dignified meals in a way that fosters community & safety.
  • Collaborates with VP Logistic & Operations to complete reports as needed.
  • Evaluates kitchen efficiencies and implements operational improvements
  • Oversees the processing GIK donations such as food kitchen equipment and other supplies
  • Ensures donations meet quality and safety standards rejecting items that are expired unsafe or inappropriate.
  • Controls costs through the efficient ordering of those items necessary to supplement donated food; purchases product as necessary in coordination with the Director of Warehouse
  • Oversees the organization of the cooler and freezer
  • Reports maintenance problems promptly advises supervisor of negative food service impacts
  • Coordinates volunteer schedules with the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Coordinates guest schedules for kitchen duties with the Career and Finance and maintains daily attendance registers for guests
  • Encourages the guests and is actively supportive of guests as a part of the Water Street Mission staff team
  • Ensures staff time and attendance records schedules & interdepartmental communications are completed timely
  • Works in coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests.
  • The Food Services Director will spend up to 20% of their time in the kitchen cooking and providing overall support for the kitchen staff.

Supervision

  • Directly supervises the Head Chef and all kitchen staff.

Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelors degree in food service management or a culinary degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a high-volume food service environment. One to two (12) years of hands-on cooking experience required. Valid Pennsylvania drivers license required. Has or able to obtain once hired: ServeSafe Manager certification
