QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must hold a Bachelors Degree in education counseling or a related field. The candidate must have worked in a public school setting in an instructional or student support role for at least 3 years working with middle and/or high school students and families. They must hold a valid Virginia Drivers License. It is preferred that the candidate have ServSafe certification or be willing to obtain the certification. They must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should have knowledge of using various systems such as Google suites and PowerSchool programs.
They must possess strong knowledge of child growth and development and demonstrate the ability to effectively support youth across a range of developmental stages. The successful candidate will exhibit excellent organizational communication and human relations skills along with the ability to work collaboratively with students staff families volunteers and community partners. The position requires the ability to follow and implement written and oral instructions manage multiple priorities and support program operations in a dynamic environment. Considerable patience professionalism and sound judgment are essential as is the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Experience in youth programming project coordination grant or funding support and community engagement is preferred.
DESCRIPTION
The Youth After-School Program Coordinator is responsible for the leadership coordination and daily operation of the school divisions after-school youth program. Reporting to the Administrator of After-School Programs and the Deputy Superintendent the Youth Program Coordinator oversees program implementation staff and volunteer support and partnerships that enhance student engagement and program growth. This position plays a key role in planning and delivering high-quality programming maintaining accurate records supporting funding and donation efforts and fostering strong relationships with school division stakeholders and community partners. The Youth Program Coordinator ensures that program activities align with division goals support student development and promote a safe structured and positive environment for all participants.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Provide leadership supervision and ongoing support to full-time and part-time Youth Assistants and volunteers.
- Oversee the daily operations of the after-school program ensuring effective implementation of youth services and program objectives.
- Develop coordinate and implement a monthly programming calendar in collaboration with program staff.
- Track document and maintain daily program records including schedules room assignments student sign-in sheets task logs and dismissal procedures.
- Coordinate with the Program Administrator to support professional development staff meetings and weekly event planning.
- Assist with project management related to program initiatives special events and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support funding grant-related activities and donation efforts to sustain and expand program offerings.
- Serve as a liaison between the school division School Board entities community partners and external organizations.
- Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts to increase student participation across the Hopewell City Public Schools division.
- Promote a positive safe and inclusive environment by modeling professionalism appropriate conduct and respectful interactions.
- Monitor student behavior and assist in ensuring program expectations and guidelines are consistently upheld.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support the effectiveness and success of the after-school program.
SUPERVISION
The Youth After-School Program Coordinator reports directly to the Coordinator of After-School Activities and the Deputy Superintendent. The position provides direct supervision to the Full-Time Youth Assistant Part-Time Youth Assistant(s) and program volunteers.
WORK CONDITIONS
This position primarily operates in an after-school setting within school facilities and community locations. Work hours may include afternoons evenings and occasional weekends to support program activities meetings and events. The role requires frequent interaction with students staff families and community partners as well as the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. The Youth Coordinator must be able to remain standing for extended periods move throughout program spaces and respond effectively to student and program needs. A commitment to maintaining a safe supportive and engaging environment for youth is essential.
