Job Summary

Job Title: Master Teacher - Special Education

Salary Grade:

Work Year: 10 month

FSLA: Exempt

SUMMARY: Provides curriculum support and professional development in the areas of special education

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is meant to be representative not exhaustive. Some individuals may not perform all the duties other cases related duties may also be assigned. Special Education-Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide guidance with developing compliant IEPs and reviewing IEPs and related documents for compliance
  2. Supports teachers by facilitating the development and implementation of curricular programs compliant with state and federal laws (IDEA)
  3. Serve as District Representative in IEP meetings as needed
  4. Oversee alternative assessments as test coordinator
  5. Coordinate with site leadership regarding caseloads schedules interventions and curricula
  6. Support in student observations data collection and behavior plan creation
  7. Coordinate with the Director of Special Education and Teaching and Learning Department on special education-specific curricula and requirements per special education law
  8. Collaborate with the district special education team to ensure services and paperwork compliance

Master Teacher

  1. National Institute of Excellence in Teaching (NIET) and Teacher Advancement Program (TAP)
    1. Participate in all TAP trainings and become a Certified TAP Evaluator; participate in the Qualified Evaluator Training and become a Certified Evaluator.
    2. Evaluate teacher performance using the TAP Instructional Rubrics and conduct follow-up teacher conferences
    3. Conduct classroom evaluations and conferencing for both formal and informal observations
    4. Work an expanded calendar year
  1. Teachers Individual Growth Plans (IGPs)
    1. Collaborates with site Master Teachers to support goal development provide instructional interventions with proven results and facilitating teacher proficiency with new strategies through classroom-based follow-up
  2. Cluster/Professional Development Planning and Implementation
    1. Developing the long-range cluster plan monthly special education cluster group meeting records and activities with other members of the leadership team
    2. Overseeing and leading co-leading or attending selected cluster meetings monthly
    3. Following the STEPS for Effective Learning; providing appropriate follow-up in the classroom; and assessing all cluster groups progress toward goals
    4. Collaborate to determine develop and implement learning resources
  1. Instructional Support
    1. Team teach with colleagues demonstrate model lessons and develop and help implement curriculum
    1. Provide resources and gradual release to assist teachers in continuing to develop efficacy in their position
  1. Professional Growth
    1. While the master teacher is expected to come to the job with a high level of educational knowledge they will be afforded the opportunity to work with a TAP director Regional Master Teacher Leaders and other master teachers to enhance their skills and provide their teachers with only the best instructional interventions and strategies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and abilities required to satisfactorily perform essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Masters degree in relevant special education discipline or highly qualified status in special education related discipline
  • Have at least five years teaching experience and a proven track record in increasing student achievement
  • Demonstrated expertise in content curriculum development student learning data analysis mentoring and professional development as demonstrated by an advanced degree advanced training and/or career experience
  • Student data that illustrates the teachers ability to increase student achievement through utilizing specific instructional interventions
  • Instructional expertise demonstrated through model teaching team teaching video presentations and student achievement gains
  • Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults
  • Knowledge of special education law and requirements (IDEA)
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students with special needs

Evaluation

The principal TAP director and other master teachers will evaluate master teachers informally and formally on an ongoing basis on the TAP Instructional Rubric. (Teacher Evaluation and Performance Award Guide). As well mentor and career teachers will participate in master teacher evaluations.

Position Summary

The special education teacher will collaborate with team members including the general education teacher related services staff school psychologists parents and other district personnel to facilitate the development of a comprehensive individualized education program that will support students in the least restrictive environment.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for planning developing delivering individualized educational services learning programs and instruction for special needs in a self-contained setting in collaboration with other school personnel.
