Other Conditions:Contingent on course offerings and student demand to begin approximately Fall 2026 pending position clearance availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision design deliver and assess instruction in psychology in terms of student-learning outcomes;

  • Develop and/or update course content and materials teaching and assessment strategies and methods to

    • Improve student attainment of learning outcomes;

    • Address the learning needs of the colleges diverse students;

    • Integrate thinking and writing skills into course content as appropriate.

    • Use multi-media resources including computers where appropriate.

  • Plan organize and independently carry out independent instructional and non-instructional assignments.

  • Perform other teaching-related duties that include but are not limited to preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about coursework (one office hour per week per three-credit class).

  • Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes continuing-education classes distance-education classes or other non-traditional teaching formats such as learning communities and teaching at off-campus sites.

  • Non-teaching duties include

    • working collegially to provide service to the department and college

    • engaging in public service related to ones professional status and/or expertise

    • maintaining an approved program of professional development

    • engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to ones discipline or teaching and

    • collect data and prepare a report

  • Uphold and contribute to Kapiolani Community Colleges values mission and vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous-serving institution.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned which may include teaching evening and weekend classes continuing-education classes distance-education classes and classes at of-campus sites.


Minimum Qualifications
  1. Masters degree in Psychology;

Note:Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.


Desirable Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. degree in Psychology

  2. Successful teaching at the post-secondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments

  3. Demonstrated ability to teach courses in psychology;

  4. Demonstrated ability to adapt/develop online courses;

  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner with peers department chairs and administrators;

  6. Demonstrated ability to write clear prose as substantiated by on-site writing performance;

  7. Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom;

  8. Demonstrated ability to initiate execute and complete projects including setting specific objectives and measuring results;

  9. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and improvement remaining current with best practices and innovations in the Psychology field.

  10. Experience in grant writing acquiring funding through grants and/or grant coordination and administration to generate resources for student development program improvement and/or workforce development.

  11. Knowledge of and commitment to Kapiolani Community Colleges values mission and vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous-serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social economic and sustainable advancement of Hawaii and the world.
