Senior Automation Engineer

The Senior Automation Engineer works closely with the product manager engineering lead and agile product team to deliver sprint goals while ensuring the overall quality reliability and performance of product features. This collaboration ensures alignment across the team and enables consistent delivery of high-value functionality.

They are responsible for conceiving and developing BDD tests derived from user stories and acceptance criteria. This includes understanding how applications interfaces and software components interact to ensure tests accurately reflect real user scenarios and system behaviours.

A key part of the role involves writing and maintaining automation code that validates browser-based user interfaces microservices applications APIs data transformations pipelines and data-driven reports. This work is carried out using the automation frameworks and tools established by the Test Automation Architect and the broader SDET community of practice.

They also supports and guides other team members in contributing to the development and enhancement of automated tests. They play a hands-on role in promoting test quality consistency and collaborative improvement across the team.

Additionally they champion contemporary software engineering practices by encouraging the use of coding guidelines participating in peer code reviews promoting test automation and fostering knowledge sharing and teamwork. They serve as a strong voice within scrum ceremonies and agile practices.

The role includes working with other Automation Engineers and architects to identify and evaluate opportunities for technology and process improvements. These efforts aim to enhance product quality engineering efficiency and commercial outcomes for the organisation.

They lead activities that support consultants trainers and technical staff during system rollouts device commissioning user training and ongoing support. Their involvement helps ensure smooth adoption and reliable operation of delivered solutions.

When customer issues are escalated by application support they investigates diagnoses root causes and uses these insights to extend or refine test cases. This proactive approach strengthens regression coverage and prevents recurrence of defects.

They document and communicate findings and actions clearly so that processes become repeatable and reliable. Wherever possible they automate these steps to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Finally Senior Automation Engineer contributes to the continuous improvement of people processes and technology by mentoring and coaching junior team members. They help build capability within the team and foster a culture of ongoing learning and improvement.

Qualifications :

• Strong experience in a software product environment using Scrum and DevOps/SRE practicesparticularly focused on automationto develop test deploy and support scalable and highly available software products
• Proficiency in expressing user features and test scenarios in Gherkin syntax within BDD feature files and code repositories
• Strong capability in creating software components tools and scripts to automate tests for cloudnative browser-based UIs microservices applications APIs and datadriven reporting
• Proficient in relevant programming languages and technologies such as Python C#/.NET Core JavaScript/TypeScript Playwright Selenium Jest and similar tools
• Conversant with internet protocols and interface technologies including REST gRPC JSON XML and Protobuf
• Competent with source code control systems agile workflows and CI/CD pipeline tools
• Experience in automated testing of large datasetsboth relational and non-relationalcovering accuracy completeness integrity discoverability and overall data quality

Desirable:

• Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating environments
• Experience working with on-premises and public cloud infrastructure particularly AWS
• Understanding of Data Lake and Data Lakehouse concepts and familiarity with technologies such as Elasticsearch and Databricks
