The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member with research and teaching interests incomparative politics international relations and/or a substantive public policy area. Candidates must have a combinedinterest in politics and policy in China.

Candidates for this position - Assistant Professor Chinese Politics and Policy - should show a clear commitment tocontributing to the intellectual life of the Department of Political Science and the La Follette School of Public Affairs.
This position is part of a 3-person cluster to enhance cross-disciplinary expertise on contemporary East Asia.

Expertise in domestic Chinese politics or the international relations of China is a requirement for the Political ScienceDepartment portion of the position. For instance a candidate must be prepared to teach classes on issues relating to domesticChinese politics or dealing with Chinese international relations.
Expertise in a substantive public policy area and drawing on China is a requirement for the La Follette School portion of theposition. For instance a candidate must be prepared to offer a public policy class on topics such as foreign
policy/international security issues (especially US-China relations) technology policy (including AI) cyber issues (including
cybersecurity) environmental policy or trade and economic development policy (including political economy).

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science that values prioritizes and
actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and (undergraduate student) mentoring. They will contribute to an
inclusive fair and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty staff students and
members of the broader community.

Job Summary:
The successful candidate will have a primary tenure-track appointment in either the Department of Political Science or the La
Follette School of Public Affairs with preference given to candidates interested in both political science and public policy.
Tenure home will be determined at the time of hiring. Expectations include a commitment to the important functions of research instruction and service/outreach as appropriate to faculty rank.

Responsibilities include conducting research and teaching at all levels required with service at the professional and universitylevel.

As a member of the East Asian Cluster participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments.
Teaching will include both undergraduate and graduate courses with a typical load of three courses each academic year.
Courses will typically include two courses taught for one department and one course taught in the other department in one
year with the department receiving two courses alternating each year. Mentoring graduate students will be required as well.
Successful applicants will teach graduate and undergraduate classes mentor students conduct scholarly research and
provide service to the department college university and academic community nationally or internationally. The successful
candidate as a member of the College of L&S will proactively contribute to support and advance the colleges commitment to
equity among all aspects of their teaching mentoring research and service.

Required Qualifications:

Must have a Ph.D. in Political Science/Public Policy (or a related field) with specialization in the politics and policy of China by the start date of the position.
