Job Summary

Assure proper and safe use of radioactive materials by the university and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) community by conducting radiation safety evaluations audits and inspections and developing and administering programs that promote safe use and assure regulatory compliance. Work with investigators and researchers to promote and assure the proper and safe use of radioactive materials. Oversee and conduct radioactive materials therapy patient monitoring. Possess knowledge skills and expertise in the use of radioactive materials.

About Pay and Compensation:
Pay Grade: 4A

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required
A Bachelors degree in a Physical or Life Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications
Typically 1 year of health physics related experience.
Working knowledge of radiation safety instrumentation.
Working knowledge of NRC Radiation Protection regulations or equivalent agreement state.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication attention to detail interpersonal and relationship management skills and ability to interact positively.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Possession of a valid state or commercial drivers license and the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.

Highly Desirable Qualifications
Experience performing hospital patient coverage after treatment with radioactive materials.
Radioactive materials shipping experience.
Certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technicians.
Working knowledge of Iowa HHS Radiation Protection regulations.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience handling hazardous (radioactive) materials.
Familiarity with radiation safety practices in a hospital environment.
Knowledge of university policies procedures and regulations.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the
