The Dawes Arboretum is actively recruiting a full time (32-39 hours) Security Officer to join our team. This year-round position will typically have a third-shift schedule of 10:00 PM-6:00AM Tuesday-Saturday.
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of Arboretum staff guests grounds equipment vehicles and buildings The Security Officer also serves as an ambassador of The Arboretum by offering courteous assistance to guests sharing information about rules and policies as well as promoting awareness of events memberships and programs.
The hourly rate of pay for this non-exempt position is $18.00-$20.00. This position is benefit-eligible and includes paid time off and sick leave.
Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Perform frequent security checks of grounds including buildings roads and collection areas.
Ensure a great visitor experience by performing protective and enforcement functions in a professional and courteous manner.
Promptly answer and respond to all calls from staff requesting assistance.
While on patrol (roads and trails) pick up any trash observed. Report any large volumes of trash to the Facilities department and/or to law enforcement to investigate.
Responsible for security at various Arboretum areas during programs and events.
Prepare accurate and clear incident and accident reports in a timely manner.
Serve as first point of response for any incidents or accidents on Arboretum property.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One (1) year of demonstrated work experience in the public safety field (Law Enforcement EMS Fire Security Military etc.) or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Excellent communication skills (verbal written and interpersonal).
Sound conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain OSHA CPR AED and role-specific FEMA certifications.
Availability to work non-standard work hours (evenings weekends and holidays).
Valid drivers license and evidence of insurability.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
