Healthcare Practice

Our Healthcare Practice works with hospitals health systems integrated medical research practices academic medical centers and other research-intensive organizations to support expand and diversify sponsored research activities. McAllister & Quinn provides an array of grant support services to these institutions including strategic intelligence on key agencies and opportunities professional development services and project execution/proposal development support. Funding for healthcare and biomedical research is competitive and ever the Healthcare Practice we support a wide array of grant applications ranging from programmatic funding for healthcare access facilities and services to large research grants supporting cutting-edge developments in health-related fields. Our role is to position our clients to submit the most competitive applications to a wide array of funders through education training and hands-on experience.


The Managing Director will specialize in grant consulting and strategic advising in the fields of biomedical sciences population sciences healthcare resource and services programs among others as well as interdisciplinary fields.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Managing Director is a high-impact role within our Healthcare Practice responsible for driving the execution of sophisticated grant-seeking strategies. Reporting to the Practice Leadership Team you will serve as a strategic partner to clientsranging from academic institutions to healthcare systemshelping them navigate the complex federal funding landscape generate competitive proposals and secure awards.


Strategy & Research Development

  • Strategic Planning: Partner with organizational leadership to identify institutional priorities strengths and assets as they relate to external funding. Develop funding strategies and action plans to implement deliverables to advance organizations priorities.
  • Project Management: Manage the end-to-end development of grant proposals with clients including complex research center grant proposals (budgets exceeding $20M). Coordinate proposal development team including subject matter experts writers editors and graphic artists.
  • Strategic Intelligence and Appropriations Tracking: Track funding trends emerging funding priorities and opportunities federal appropriations and legislative shifts to provide clients with a competitive edge.
  • Capacity Building: Design and deliver tailored trainings and strategic intelligence services to elevate grant seeking and proposal development capabilities of client teams. with an emphasis on research development.

Client & Project Management

  • Relationship Excellence: Act as the primary point of contact for client leadership ensuring high-touch customer service and proactive problem-solving.
  • Workflow Optimization: Oversee the planning and execution of grant strategies for assigned clients ensuring all milestones and deliverables meet rigorous quality standards.
  • Strategic Alignment: Partner with Practice Vice Presidents to ensure all client engagements and project outcomes integrate seamlessly with broader firm objectives and long-term growth strategies.
  • Travel: Engage with clients on-site and participate in industry conferences (approx. <20% travel).
Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Education: Masters degree in a health-specific or health science related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: 57 years of professional experience in research development or federal grants management.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of federal agencies and grant programs (e.g. NIH HRSA SAMHSA DoD). Prior experience in an academic sponsored programs setting is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: * Proven track record in federal agency proposal development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and research synthesis tools.
  • Strong project management skills (Certifications like PMP or APMP are a plus).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication exceptional presentation skills a proactive solutions-first mentality and the ability to synthesize technical scientific content for diverse audiences.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Normal work hours are 8:30 am through 5:30 pm Monday through Friday EST (for local staff)
  • Location: Negotiable - remote or in-office (Washington D.C.).

  • Salary consideration will be commensurate with experience starting at $110000.00 annual base salary and bonus eligible after one year of continuous service.
