Job Description:
This position works nights. This position is based in the Transportation Management Center. This work consists of detecting unplanned incidents and being aware of planned incidents on the transportation network for the purpose of communicating this information for incident management and informing the publics safety and mobility decisions. Responsibilities include accurately communicating emergency and nonemergency information to public agencies Maine DOT field personnel and the public; dispatching the appropriate units when weather safety and traffic events occur; and determining traffic obstacles and necessary emergency responders. Work is performed under general supervision.
Responsibilities include:
Viewing creating modifying and enabling response scenarios when traffic events are detected to assist the public and promote consistent traffic flow.
Evaluating and responding to major incidents by determining obstacles injuries fatalities spills and estimated duration and by confirming assistance of emergency responders to assist the public and ensure proper incident response.
Coordinating with interagency traffic management personnel during confirmed incidents and before special events to ensure appropriate response.
Receiving and prioritizes non-emergency and emergency requests for police fire and emergency medical services MaineDOT personnel and other public safety resources to route such requests to the appropriate agency or department.
Monitoring the status of MaineDOTs road network and responding to events per the Transportation Management Center (TMC) manual to utilize identified solutions promoting traffic flow.
Recording information in the appropriate records management system and relaying pertinent information to incoming personnel to maintain consistent communication within the TMC.
Prioritizing and determines the appropriate incident response based on the information from the reporting party to properly inform and assist other parties and the public of incidents.
Reporting any software or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel to facilitate appropriate repairs.
Posting public advisories regarding construction road conditions and incidents into the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) software and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices to notify the public per established guidelines.
Notifying upper level MaineDOT Management and MaineDOT Duty Officers of pre-defined traffic scenarios to obtain next steps regarding TMC actions.
Complete other Operations Task in the TMC as appropriate and requested.
This position will initially work nights from 6PM-6AM with the following schedule per two-week period:
Monday/Tuesday off
Wednesday/Thursday on
Friday/Saturday/Sunday off
Monday/Tuesday on
Wednesday/Thursday - off
Friday/Saturday/Sunday on
This amounts to 84 hr per pay period (8 hours overtime) The schedule allows for three day weekends every other weekend and opportunities for overtime.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence ofthe following experience:
Education training and/or experience in radio dispatch communications law enforcement public safety or transportation requiring the use of radio telecommunications equipment -OR- direct work experience involving a high level of public contact customer service or customer relations activities which required the use of radio telecommunications equipment.
