Position Duties and Responsibilities:

A Chemistry Instructor will develop and teach coursework and curriculum that comprise the departments degrees

• Plan and teach Chemistry courses during the term as specified by the academic schedule
• Use instructional technology including learning management systems and other hybrid methods to deliver coursework
• Provide timely and accurate assessment feedback to students
• Plan supervise and evaluate students progress
• Hold office hours
• Maintain related student records evaluations and progress reports
• Provide course syllabus for each class
• Consult with other college faculty and staff on issues relevant to students success and retention
• Work with students faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Demonstrate respect for others
• Participate in departmental meetings and activities
• Contribute to college-wide goals and activities
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to Bellingham Technical Colleges Mission
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of masters degree in chemistry or other closely related Chemistry discipline OR Masters degree in Education Teaching or related field AND 24 upper division credits in Chemistry.
• Prior to final hire a pre-employment background including criminal history and signed declaration statement as it pertains to sexual misconduct per Washington State Law (RCW 28B.112.080) will be conducted. Employment is contingent on passing the background check and signed declaration per RCW 28b.112.080 satisfactory to the college. Information from the background check and declaration will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicants suitability and competence to perform in the position. This position has access to children under the age of 18 as part of the State of Washington Running Start Program

• Two years of teaching at the post-secondary level
• Experience with course design and/or curriculum development
• Experience with hybrid instruction
• Experience or interest in working closely with instructors from various technical fields

Compensation Work Schedule and Benefits:

Per course compensation ranges from $5754- $6713.63 (66-77 hours; $87.19 per hour).Rate of pay includes payment for extra duties required for the teaching prep-time meetings office hours and professional functions associated with this assignment.

Benefits:

This position will receive prorated leave based on the BEA CBA:

• Receive sick leave per academic year (based on 7.5 hours per month)
• 5% per hour above the teaching rate doctoral stipend if teaching a five credit or more course (not paid on contract training community or continuing ed courses)
• 3 In addition a 5% Longevity premium rate after teaching 1375 hours at BTC
