Responsibilities:
This position will oversee three major areas. They will serve as Director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings faculty member responsible for advising teaching and recruiting McDuffie Center for Strings students and serve as Executive Director of the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra.
Director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings
- Coordinate Distinguished Artists
Coordinate the schedule for Distinguished Artist to teach at the Bell House
Manage the contracts for the distinguished artists in conjunction with the Dean of the School of Music
Host the distinguished artists while on campus for their teaching
- Budget Manager for the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings
Manage the yearly McDuffie Center for Strings budget
Approve operating expenses in Workday
Develop monthly budget reports for the Center along with the Fabian Concerts and Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra
- Oversee Chamber Music
Coordinate with Annie Fullard the assignment of string chamber groups: dates repertoire rehearsal schedules and performance dates
Provide information for and proof programs
- Recruit for the McDuffie Center for Strings
Meet with prospective students and teachers at various concerts on and off campus
Meet with prospects who are visiting Macon schedule trial lessons with faculty
Coordinate chamber/orchestra auditions for returning/new students first week of classes: Auditions - evaluates prescreening videos; coordinates with faculty on students accepted to audition; runs audition process; coordinates faculty for meet-and-greet concert
Work with faculty and guest artists to coordinate concert dates (Fabian MMSO and Young Artists Series) and repertoire for upcoming year; coordinate with Townsend School of Music and Marketing for annual Discover Townsend brochure
- Coordinate and Facilitate of the annual Labor Day Festival
Coordinate applications auditions and teaching faculty
Expand applicants to rising high school juniors and seniors
Coordinate the program for the Labor Day Festival concert
- Young Artist Concerts
Coordinate which students/groups perform on concerts based on submissions/timing
Attend concerts
Faculty of Music
- Academic Duties
Advise all McDuffie Center for String students each semester
Teach when needed applied viola and chamber coaching
Serve as Instructor of Record for various McDuffie Center for Strings courses i.e. Rome Chamber Music Festival Chamber Ensembles String Orchestra Special Topics etc.
Work with students on degree plans and academic issues
Serve on the Townsend School of Music Deans Council
Work with the Directors of Undergraduate Studies and Graduate Studies in the Townsend School of Music
Serve on Townsend School of Music committees and University committees
Coordinate McDuffie students on Weekly Recital Hour and attend
Attend Fall orientation meeting with students
Work with the Dean to coordinate student(s) to perform for university events
Meet with students as needed on various academic or Center for Strings issues
Attend monthly Townsend School of Music faculty meetings and give McDuffie Center for Strings report
- Artistic Performances
Perform when needed on the Fabian Concert Series Townsend Faculty Gala and other Mercer University events
- Rome Chamber Festival
Consult with Bobby McDuffie (founder of the Rome Chamber Festival) on student selection for the yearly event in Rome Italy
Organize student preparation in terms of repertoire and travel arrangements
Attend when necessary the Rome Chamber Festival as a performer/co-organizer
Executive Director of the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra
- Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra
Serve as Executive Director of the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra
Work with Bobby McDuffie and Yaniv Segal on repertoire conductors and guest artists
Coordinates rehearsal dates with Yaniv Segal; give suggestions on repertoire; participate in lunch with alumni if time allows; proof programs; attend concert
Coordinate with venues on concerts and events: Piedmont Grand Opera House
Oversee the marketing and public relations for the MMSO
Manage and coordinate with the Center for String Program Manager for the logistic of each MMSO event
Work with Daniel Tosky Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) contractor and Center for String Program Manager to coordinate all ASO logistical requirements availability rehearsals communication with ASO principals etc.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate:
Will be an experienced musician and teacher with a commitment to liberal arts education.
Will hold an earned masters in music and demonstrated commensurate professional experience.
Will have an understanding and evidence of the arts administration budgeting and artist scheduling.
Will have an understanding of professional orchestral organizational structure development and budgeting.
