Health Promotion and Wellness Graduate Assistants support the mission of Health Promotion and Wellness and are an integral part of a team that is committed to leading wellbeing initiatives that support students staff and faculty of Illinois State. Graduate Assistant staff support planning development and implementation of public health strategies designed to address health and wellness priorities and further diversity equity and inclusion at the Institution.
40% Prevention Education and Outreach Programs:
Coordinates both the Redbirds Stress Less and Sweet Dreams Redbirds programs (8 weeks each online): Prepares and sends weekly emails writes articles communicates with participants to encourage motivation coordinates and delivers incentives to participants and coordinates assessment for each program.
Coordinates and staffs the departmental outreach efforts by actively promoting Health Promotion and Wellness to the campus community. (Alcohol Education class and Pawsitively Stress Free even
Organizational Relationships:
Health Promotion and Wellness functions as a team so Graduate Assistants will receive guidance from all
professional staff and please ask questions as they arise. A professional staff supervisor will work closely with Graduate Assistants to guide day-to-day duties to feel fully supported in their roles. All staff including Graduate Assistants report to the Director of Health Promotion and Wellness.
$1510 monthly stipend
1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at Must be a degree-seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in Health Related Public Health Education Psychology CSPA Social Work Sociology Communication Teaching and Learning.

Graduate Assistants are considered pre-professional positions within the department.
Take the initiative to learn all areas within Health Promotion and Wellness.
Use effective written/verbal communication and solid organization skills.
Attend suggested trainings that develop competence around diversity equity and inclusion.
Work collaboratively treat coworkers with respect and thrive in a team environment.
Speak directly with one another when there are misunderstandings. Avoid discussing conflicts with those not involved.
Maintain appropriate boundaries with students interns and coworkers.
Effectively communicate and formally present information on sensitive topics aligned with the mission of Health Promotion and Wellness. Must not contradict the departments mission when representing Health Promotion and Wellness. Staff also represent Division of Student Affairs and Illinois State University.
Graduate Assistantships with Health Promotion and Wellness are pre-professional staff positions that adhere to the University Administrative Calendar. The Administrative Calendar follows a typical work schedule during times when academic courses do not meet (i.e. fall break week after December finals week before January classes begin and spring break). Pre-professional Graduate Assistants work 20 hours per week Monday Friday and into the evening with possible weekend shifts each month. A set weekly schedule will be arranged once the Graduate Assistant begins their role.
