Job Goal:
To provide supplemental services necessary to increase the achievement of students with visual impairments and provide training and technical assistance in IDEA Secondary Transition.
Qualifications and Experience
- Masters degree in education or related Field
- Knowledge of best practices regarding special education rules and regulations in Visual Impairment and secondary transition
- Visual Impairment Certification EC-12 or other visual impairment certification
- Minimum of five years of recent teaching and/or supervision in the field of visual impairment
Special Knowledge & Skills
- A high degree of professionalism including strong organization communication and public relations skills
- Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with public schools ESC and state personnel
- Presentation skills; ability to provide professional development to educators
- Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to utilize technology effectively
- Willingness to travel frequently
Major Responsibilities
- Determine regional needs and develop a comprehensive longitudinal service delivery system materials and services
- Coordinate the development and implementation of a regional plan of services for students with visual impairments
- Provide forums for teachers of students with visual impairments
- Coordinate a Low Vision Clinic
- Provide technical assistance to school personnel throughout the region
- Coordinate staff development/in-service education of personnel serving students with visual impairments
- Interface with agencies/resources serving persons with visual impairments
- Assist in the development and administration of grant applications and department budgets
- Advise district personnel on the Annual Registration of Students with Visual Impairments
- Distribute SSVI funds to eligible LEAs
- Participate in School Improvement activities when requested/needed
- Assist in recruiting personnel related to the field
- Provide recommendations for the purchase of specialized technology and equipment for the visually impaired requisition inventory check-out and repair
- Fulfill TEAs grant(s) (formerly called Network) activities/responsibilities
- Perform other duties that may be assigned
- Provide technical assistance and training to LEA personnel in the area of Secondary Transition
- Assist districts with revising and improving IDEA secondary transition procedures

Working Conditions
- Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
- Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching
- Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- May work prolonged or irregular hours
- Work with frequent interruptions maintain emotional control under stress
