This role is ideal for an experienced Controls / Automation Engineer who can work independently lead technical execution and support sophisticated systems with minimal ramp-up.
What Youll Be Doing
- Design complete control systems from a blank sheet of paper (hardware software and network architecture)
- Program PLC and DCS systems from scratch (templates acceptable)
- Lead startup troubleshooting commissioning and system integration
- Support electrical panel design power calculations and hardware layouts
- Interface with cross-functional teams including engineers designers and vendors
- Develop detailed technical documentation including:
- Control system design descriptions
- Description of operation / theory of operation
- Panel drawings schematics and network layouts
- FAT/SAT testing and commissioning plans
- Perform system analysis such as:
- Short circuit protection
- Load flow and power consumption
- Ground fault monitoring
- Safety system implementation (SIL / PL preferred)
- Design robust efficient PLC code with diagnostics to prevent secondary faults
- Act as a technical lead mentoring junior engineers and technicians
- Support onsite work during installation and commissioning phases as needed
Work Environment & Travel
- Location: Orlando FL (onsite role)
- Work Model: 100% onsite at project or client locations
- Travel: Up to 30% worst case (typically closer to 10%)

Requirements
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 810 years of Controls / Automation Engineering experience
- Strong PLC programming experience from scratch including:
- Ladder Logic (required)
- Structured Text (required)
- Rockwell / Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation manufacturing or system integration
- Solid understanding of control system hardware I/O panels and field devices
- Proven experience with startup commissioning and troubleshooting
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
- Experience working with ethernet-based distributed I/O systems
- Comfortable working 100% onsite and collaborating with technical project teams
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience in safety-critical or regulated environments
- Knowledge of ASTM standards safety engineering or SIL / PL concepts
- AutoCAD experience for electrical or controls documentation
- Exposure to multiple PLC programming languages beyond ladder logic
- Technical leadership or mentorship experience
