SUMMARY:

East Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animal Science to begin September 1 2026. This is a full-time 9-month appointment in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR). The successful candidate will address issues of state regional national and international relevance in livestock management with a focused teaching and research emphasis on beef cattle management small ruminants and/or equine management. The successful candidate will contribute to the colleges teaching research and service missions through impactful externally funded research effective and comprehensive teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and meaningful service to the department college university profession and community within a student-ready framework.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research

  • Develop a productive and collaborative atmosphere for teaching research and outreach in animal science as well as interdisciplinary research and outreach collaborations in animal science.

  • Develop and sustain a focused research agenda leading to referred publications and presentations.

  • Seek and successfully obtain extramural funding to support research.

  • Mentor and engage both graduate and undergraduate students in research including service on graduate committees.

Teaching

  • Teach 4 undergraduate and graduate courses per semester with potential release time depending on research activity.

  • Develop graduate and undergraduate courses in area(s) of expertise.

  • Demonstrate commitment to effective comprehensive and innovative pedagogy including development and implementation of various online and blended formats.

  • Advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Collaborate communicate and provide expertise with faculty and staff for both the College of Agricultural Sciences and the university.

Service

  • Participate in departmental college and university committees and governance.

  • Contribute to the professional community through activities such as reviewing conference participation and organizational service.

  • Engage in outreach or community engagement to advance the mission of the university.

  • Mentor students through student organizations and/or competitive teams

  • Recruit graduate and undergraduate students in animal science and other CASNR disciplines

  • Participate in college-wide events

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D./terminal degree in Animal Science or closely related academic discipline at the time of appointment. ABD are encouraged to apply.

  • Evidence of or potential for scholarly productivity in research/creative activity.

  • Evidence of or potential for effective teaching or at the university level including graduate-level instruction.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty students and other stakeholders.

  • Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Experience working with farmers ranchers state agencies and industry stakeholders.

  • Potential for a nationally recognized research agenda in animal science.

  • Demonstrated potential to attract extramural funding.
