The Horticultural Society of New York (The Hort) seeks an energetic organized and collaborative Communications and Marketing Manager to lead the development and execution of strategic communications that elevate The Horts mission programs and partnerships. The Communications and Marketing Manager will manage organizational content across digital and print channels ensuring consistent messaging strong visual identity and audience-focused storytelling.

Responsibilities:
Corporate Writing and Content Development
Develop core organizational communications including general newsletters partner and stakeholder newsletters board communications and client-facing materials.
Draft and produce the annual report including coordination of inputs timelines and review cycles.
Develop marketing and communications collateral to support events partner activations campaigns and special initiatives.
Ensure all written materials are accurate audience-appropriate and consistent with organizational voice and style and communications strategies.
Graphic Design and Visual Communications Support
Use Canva and related tools to design and produce branded materials such as flyers social graphics event collateral presentations and simple reports.
Translate written content into clear visually consistent formats aligned with the Horts brand.
Maintain and apply brand standards across communications materials.
Coordinate with external designers or vendors when higher-level design support is required.
Channel Management and Audience Growth
Manage day-to-day use of organizational channels including Instagram Facebook website (WordPress) and email platform (Constant Contact).
Oversee publishing workflows and technical requirements for each channel.
Optimize content format timing and presentation to increase reach and engagement.
Ensure website content remains current accurate and aligned with organizational priorities.
Communications Planning and Calendar Management
Maintain and manage the organization-wide communications calendar.
Coordinate timing of campaigns announcements and program highlights across channels.
Anticipate peak communications needs tied to events seasonal programs and reporting cycles.
Cross-Department Coordination and Story Development
Serve as the primary point of coordination for communications across departments.
Meet regularly with program teams and senior leadership to identify stories milestones and emerging priorities.
Translate program activity into clear factual narratives suitable for external audiences.
Ensure alignment on messaging timing and audience targeting.
Metrics Analysis and Performance Reporting
Track and analyze performance metrics across communications channels.
Prepare regular summary reports for senior leadership.
Use data to inform content strategy channel focus and resource allocation.
Required Qualifications
46 years of experience in communications or marketing preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats and audiences.
Experience managing digital channels social media and email marketing platforms.
Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with generative AI tools such as CHATGPT Microsoft CoPilot or ClaudeAI and comfort utilizing them to support workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with WordPress content management and HTML
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform computer-based tasks for an extended period of time.
Ability to travel throughout New York City primarily via public transportation
Additional Details
Salary Range: $65000-$75000.00 annual salary
Employment Classification: Full-Time Regular
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm
Location: On-site
