About the Role

Under the supervision of the Controller the Director of Accounting will be responsible for managing the accounting functions within the Finance this role he/she will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the general ledger accounting; identify and resolve discrepancies periodically review and implement enhancements to the system of internal control; collect operational metrics and update key performance indicator reports (KPI); and assist in the preparation of financial statements and form 990s.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise two direct reports including coaching development peer review and delegation of key accounting activities
  • Oversee the general accounting function which includes cash management/reconciliation balance sheet management and royalty management.
    • Preparation and review monthly reconciliations of asset and liability accounts.
    • Record transactions for month and year-end closings
    • Recording and reconciliation of endowment and other investments accounts.
    • Reconciliation of restricted contribution income.
    • Recording of performance revenue
    • Recording and verification of royalty/licensing income and royalty/licensing expense.
    • Recording of recorded music revenue.
    • Recording of video streaming revenue.
    • Preparation and review of monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Recording of depreciation and maintenance of the fixed asset module.
    • Process and record stock gift activity.
  • Assist the Controller in preparing accurate and timely financial statements for annual audits tax returns and board committee meeting reporting responsibilities.
  • Periodic maintenance and update of KPI dashboards.
  • Upload of monthly ticket sales and fundraising sub-system activity (Tessitura)
  • Maintain and enhance financial systems standard operational procedures and process documentation.
  • Act as Back-up Payroll function.
  • Assist in special projects as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting required CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and non-profit regulations.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Excel including dashboard development and other advanced capabilities.
  • Knowledge of financial software (NetSuite ERP/NSPB preferred) including but not limited general ledger budgeting banking and credit card processing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop accounting staff.
  • Understanding of data analysis database usage and data model building with intermediate SQL skills preferred.
  • Experience working in non-profit organizations is useful but not required.
  • Experience with Tessitura and/or Power BI preferred

That said staff are expected to be on site whenever their role or schedule requires it whether that is standard hours evenings or weekends so that we can do our best work together.
