The mission of the Opportunity and Inclusive Growth Institute (Institute) in the Research Division at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is to conduct and promote research that will increase economic opportunity and inclusive growth and help the Federal Reserve achieve its maximum employment mandate. Thus its research focuses on understanding the evolution and drivers of labor market outcomes in America. Institute economists conduct academic research and support the policy process. The Research Assistant position is responsible for supporting the Institute Director staff economists and visiting scholars in fulfilling this mission.

Expected start date will be Spring/Summer 2026

This position requires access to restricted data which is limited to U.S. citizens.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently to assist economists in a timely manner with research projects.
  • Assist in development of Research Division events and products.
  • Download and assemble datasets.
  • Create advanced charts tables and presentations in support of economists projects.
  • Prepare clear verbal remarks and advanced written reports.
  • Use applicable statistical econometric and other software packages at an advanced level to program perform analyses model estimations and simulations and assist with the preparation of memos.
  • Compile literature reviews and conduct archival research handle and configure data present and maintain data in an organized and user-friendly format.
  • Proofread and (potentially) co-author articles with the oversight of economists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with coursework in economics mathematics statistics or database analysis. Advanced coursework in statistics/econometrics preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and work cooperatively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection management and analysis by using large databases and statistical packages or other related computer programming experience (e.g. Stata MATLAB R Python SAS) is preferred.

*Onsite work is an essential function of this position and you are expected to be in the office 5 days per week for meetings and team collaboration.

Salary & Benefits:

The full salary range is $59300 - $74081 - $88900 however the expected starting salary range is $59300-$65000. Salary offer will be based on qualifications/experience of the candidate alignment with market data the needs of the position our total compensation package and internal equity.
