Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the job is to provide operational support for the Board of Professional Engineers (PE). Duties include routine-review and analysis of Maryland Statures and/or regulations concerning the practice of various PE subjects. The Board Officer in this classification interprets the qualification of engineering exam candidates and prepares statistical indices and reports of examination for the Board and Executive Director and/or Assistant Executive Director. The Board Officer prepares correspondence for applicants customers and other stakeholders on behalf of the PE this role the employee uses independent judgement and analysis in applying and interpreting complex policies and prepares procedure manuals for staff within the PE Board.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:- The Administrative Officer I is responsible for coordinating monthlymeetings of the Board for Professional Engineers managing the agendas and meeting minutes and documenting the boards decisions. Determines which applications should go before the board for further evaluation. Refers credible violations of the standard of practice to the Assistant Executive and/or Executive Director for possible disciplinary action by the Complaint Committee. Is responsible for providing all material necessary for board decisions and discussions. Is responsible for communications with all exam applicants licensed professionals complainants and individuals appearing before the boards. Coordinates procedural guidelines and manuals for the Board reviews. The Board Officer communicates all Board requests including approvals exam denials and disciplinary actions in professional practices. Leads and coordinates administrative support assignments to attain Board meeting objectives.
- Evaluates the credentials of applicants for licensure and make decisionsbased on the authority conferred by the Board and policies laws and regulations of the board. Such determinations include whether an applicant has acceptable qualifying educational requirements for examination and reciprocal applications as well as whether the requirements of reciprocal licensure are based on requirements that were current when the individual first became licensed in another US jurisdiction.
- Maintains organizes and prepares statistical indices and reports ofexamination/ reciprocity/ corporation/partnership and licensing files of all licensees and applicants. Manages and maintains approved continuing professional competency (CPC) courses submitted to the board for approval. Verifies the performance measurement criteria ensuring the course materials are adequate for engineering practice. Evaluates submittals are complete and are submitted to the Board for review in a timely manner. Communicates on behalf of the Board with third-party stakeholders such as the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) to schedule the examination for professional engineers. Primary contact for licensed professionals in Maryland providing a certificate of licensure of good standing to other state boards/jurisdictions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30college credit hours from an accredited college or university forthe required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that includedregular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans policies rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
