Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in Japanese (Japanese Studies) in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Ref: 534234) to commence as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and availability of funding.
Applicants should possess a relevant Masters degree with demonstrated expertise in teaching Japanese to non-native speakers along with at least five years of experience in teaching at the tertiary level. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record of planning and executing co-curricular activities and experiential learning programmes related to Japanese culture and pedagogy.
Applicants must be native or near-native speakers of Japanese with excellent English proficiency. They should be familiar with current trends in Japanese language teaching and assessment including the use of AI and other digital tools in language education. The ideal candidate will be an engaging teacher with experience leading core language courses including those taught by multiple instructors as well as language courses for specific purposes. They should be highly reliable collaborative and solutions-oriented with a strong record of service cultural outreach and collaboration with external partners.
The appointee will be responsible for teaching and coordinating a range of Japanese language courses contributing to curriculum development and designing assessment materials. While this is primarily an academic-related position focused on teaching and administration research activities will be encouraged.
