SUMMARY:
Under moderate supervision responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the Medical Center structure and equipment including monitoring performing preventive maintenance and making repairs as necessary.
Qualifications :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent required. One year boiler experience preferred; one year if HVAC experience preferred.
CONDITIONS:
The new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory the employee will be terminated.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to do carpentry including wall repairs patching and painting.
Ability to do minor electrical A/C plumbing repairs and perform preventive maintenance on miscellaneous hospital equipment.
Ability to prioritize work assignments.
Ability to interpret data and act and follow established procedures.
Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and confidentiality of health system and departmental documents required
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients physicians health system officials other health system personnel and the general public is essential.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic math functions.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to prioritize work responsibilities; think and act independently with limited supervision.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Third Class Maryland State Stationary Engineer operator license preferred; welding and refrigeration certification preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Works in all areas of the campus with possible exposure to extreme temperatures loud noise and tight quarters; requires walking standing reaching and bending approximately 80% of the time; requires lifting carrying pushing and pulling equipment weighing up to 100 pounds approximately 30% of the time; requires visual acuity and manual dexterity in order to operate tools and machinery; potential for exposure to hazardous materials and situations; and potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
