Job Description Summary:
Under moderate supervision the Water Conservation Specialist will monitor and improve irrigation systems during the watering season through maintaining and providing suggestions on opportunities for the water conservation program that can accurately track water usage within the Parks System. This position will work closely with contractors and employees (full-time temporary and seasonal) on irrigation scheduling irrigation auditing irrigation refurbishment and Irrigation system upgrades.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with departments water conservation efforts by managing irrigation watering practices using effective scheduling programming and maintenance of central and remote irrigation control systems.
Assist with trouble shooting diagnosing and repairing of irrigation system problems including but not limited to mainlines point of connection assemblies electric valves backflow devices manual valves master valves wiring and electrical connections controllers sprinkler heads flow sensors soil moisture sensors rain sensors and improper hydraulic conditions.
Assist with developing a water schedule per park site based on weather conditions.
Adjust irrigation scheduling from the Central Computer or remote computers as necessary using data time or flow-based schedules.
Assist with designing irrigation systems; including but not limited to point of connection backflow prevention pressure regulation master valves controllers field wiring various types of pipe and fittings sprinkler heads electric valves etc.
Maintains accurate records of work performed using systems including but not limited to the asset management software system.
Read and use irrigation and landscape construction plans and as-built plans to perform construction and repairs.
Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Ensures proper safety precautions are taken anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents/injuries at all work sites. Places barricades and secures construction sites at the end of the day. Responsible for the safety of self others materials and equipment. Reports all accidents injuries and damage to property.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks outdoors and under all weather conditions including the ability to stand kneel and bend frequently and for extended periods of time.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with co-workers and the public.
Ability to act as a team member and collaborate with others.
Ability to perform record keeping functions data entry and data management.
Ability to read various operational manuals and schematic drawings.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management city officials vendors other governmental agencies other employees and the general public.
Ability to be dependable and a team player and display a can-do will-do attitude.
Ability to perform comprehensive turf maintenance practices including mowing fertilization aeration and irrigation management when designing a new system.
Knowledge and experience utilizing irrigation tools equipment and software relevant to the role.
Knowledge of proper installation and maintenance of central control irrigation systems flow sensors soil moisture sensors ET sensors rain sensors and weather-based solutions.
Valid drivers license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in Landscape Management and Construction or related degree.
Experienced in Irrigation Central Control and moisture-based controllers.
Irrigation Association Certified Landscape and Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) Qwell Master Gardener Turf Grass Management or similar.
Irrigation Association Irrigation Designer Certification (CID).
Experience working in public environments.
Ability to demonstrate an understanding of resource conservation within a parks maintenance context.
Ability to demonstrate familiarity with high-visitor urban environments.
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two(2) years of on the job experience in the field of irrigation management landscape management or closely related field.
Ability to maintain First Aid CPR and AED certifications within 3 months of hire.
Two (2) years of working knowledge of the central control system and all related system components including controllers flow sensors and moisture sensors.
Experience in auditing maintenance programing and upgrading a large scale multi-zone irrigation system.
Experience in testing new and repairing irrigation equipment to ensure proper function.
Experience in repairing and/or replacing any irrigation components as needed. May upgrade existing irrigation infrastructure equipment and revise related schematic materials as needed.
Experience in logical troubleshooting techniques to maintain and identify field problems with irrigation controllers master valves and all other related Irrigation components.
Experience in maintaining/troubleshooting Central Control firmware software and communication on programmable irrigation controllers.
Experience with related machines equipment and tools including using a variety of long handles manual and power tools and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical and mental effort:Engage in physically demanding tasks outdoors across a variety of weather the ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and competently operate standing walking bending climbing lifting dragging and effective communication skills both written and of carrying out physically demanding tasks outdoors even under varying weather conditions.
Working environment:Maintain flexibility regarding irregular hours weekends evenings to work under stressful situations and shifting priorities.
Machines and equipment used:Demonstrate proficiency in operating standard irrigation and landscaping machinery and using office equipment. May operate vehicles gators landscaping equipment and tow trailers.
