The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. PSCS Social Worker I Criminal Justice:Grade 17 - $76315 (with potential growth up to $110288)

PSCS Social Worker II Criminal Justice:Grade 18 - $81444 (with potential growth up to $117737)

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide the full range of social work services to incarcerated individuals housed at the assigned DPSCS facility and provide services to the assigned regional institutions as needed.

Social Work Services:

  • Provides clinical and case management services which include the development of comprehensive re-entry plans for special needs incarcerated individuals;
  • Provides individual intervention for crisis intervention and/or problem-solving as assigned;
  • Provides on-going individual therapy as assigned and resources permit;
  • Provides assessments for PREA screening and follow-up for eligibility for domestic violence group treatment and for release planning services;
  • Conducts therapeutic/didactic groups with a cognitive-behavioral theory base to the general population;
  • Presents at clinical staff meetings when scheduled.

Related Administrative Duties:

  • Maintains and completes monthly reports statistics case notes and appropriate records on all services provided;
  • Participates in institutional regional and divisional staff meetings;
  • Serves on special task forces and work groups as assigned by supervisor;
  • Completes special projects or tasks as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    PSCS Social Worker I Criminal Justice

    Education:Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

    Experience:None.


    PSCS Social Worker II Criminal Justice

    Education:Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

    Experience:Two years of experience providing clinical and therapeutic social work services through the application of the principles methods and procedures of professional social work to clients requiring rehabilitative counseling.

    Note:Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science Psychology or Welfare fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

    LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    are required to be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (on or before June 30 2018) Master Social Worker (on or after July 1 2018) to meet criteria for SWI. Employees must be licensed at the Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker-Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position as SWII. Applicants who do not have a license may apply pending receipt of the required license but cannot be offered a position until licensed. When the license is obtained submit a copy to the hiring department.

    2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties whichrequire the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties willbe required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State ofMaryland.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    1. Employees are required tomeet mandatory standards for continuing education as determined by the hiringdepartment. Employees who fail to obtain the required continuing educationcredits shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion suspensionand dismissal.

    2. Employeesmust completean approved training program in group counseling techniques.

    3. Employeesare requiredto qualify for and successfully complete the Entry Level Training Academyoperated by the Police and Correctional Training Commissions.

    • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
    • Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year
    • Sick Leave - fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year
    • Parental Leave - up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child
