Job Summary

Reports to: Campus Principal

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Compensation Plan: Clerical/Paraprofessional

Pay Grade: 02

Minimum Salary: $24534

Duty Days: 187 days per year

Primary Purpose:

Supervises students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintains a highly structured and orderly environment. Works under the general supervision of the campus principal and immediate direction and general supervision of a certified teacher daily.

Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent and ability to pass a rigorous content-oriented exam

or

  • Associate degree or 48 semester hours of college credit

Certification

  • Current Texas educational aide certificate or ability to obtain

Experience

  • Experience as a classroom aide with emphasis on child growth and development

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to use personal computer
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in handling confidential information

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Works with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
  • Works with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.
  • Consults classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
  • Distributes collects and checks student assignments for accuracy.
  • Maintains individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.

Student Management

  • Manages student behavior and administers discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Records student attendance and discipline referrals using personal computer.
  • Supervises students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.

Other Related Duties:

  • Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participates in professional development department meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools and Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling squatting bending and stooping

Motion: Moderate walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise; may require occasional district-wide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
