The IGTP is looking for a committed enthusiastic and experienced postdoctoral researcher in genomics to work primarily on the DM1-Hub project while also participating in associated research initiatives that aim to genetically characterize patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1).

DM1-Hub aims to be the basis for the implementation of precision medicine aspects in Spain for the benefit of patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1) prioritizing better diagnosis and optimization in the use of soon-to-be-available treatments. The DM1-Hub project brings together a group of 80 professionals in the areas of research and clinical monitoring of DM1. Together they form a multidisciplinary work team with extensive experience in this pathology at the research level which includes predoctoral postdoctoral and senior researchers including renowned research groups in the field of rare neuromuscular diseases and DM1 in particular. Specifically the team is made up of specialists in genomics epigenetics bioinformatics biostatistics proteomics applied research and scientific turn the team makes up an important network of around 70 health professionals (neurologists neuropediatricians neuropsychologists and nurses) in more than 40 hospitals in 8 different Autonomous Communities who follow up with DM1 patients in their consultations.

The selected candidate will contribute to the scientific development of DM1-Hub through the generation analysis and interpretation of genomic and related molecular addition the candidate will support other DM1 research projects within the group focused on improving the genetic and molecular understanding of the disease to support future diagnostic and therapeutic advances.

The project DM1-Hub is funded through the grant PMPER24/00007 from ISCIII for Research Projects on Rare Diseases from the 2024 Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science Innovation and Universities under the PERTE for Vanguard Health and within the framework of the Recovery Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The candidate would be also supported to apply for a Sara Borrell program under the current AES2026 call.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The postdoctoral researcher would be coordinating different aspects of the DM1-Hub project:
  • Candidate will receive capacitation in:
    1. Mission objectives and main tasks of the DM1-Hub project.
    2. REDCap database (given by the experts of the DM1-Hub project).
    3. Possibility of formation with Treat-NMD in quality data acquisition.
  • Sample shipment coordination between participants of the DM1-Hub project
  • High molecular weight DNA extraction from blood
  • Generation of libraries after targeted enrichment and sequencer loading
  • Monitoring of data acquisition genetic data entry in REDCap participation in data analysis and interpretation
  • Cell culture maintenance and characterization
  • Participation in outreach activities patients workshops or other scientific events.
  • Attendance to regular meetings with the DM1-Hub curators and other members of the DM1-Hub team.
  • Reporting results problems and achievements to the DM1-Hub managing team.
  • Writing scientific reports and scientific papers of the project.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
  • Doctorate in biomedical sciences genetics or similar.
  • Experience in genomics and sequencing library preparations experience in long read sequencing library preparations is a plus.
  • Experience in advanced DNA handling techniques CAS9 cuts high molecular weight DNA extraction methods DNA selection and targeted enrichment methods and DNA cleaning and size selection
  • Experience in primary cell cultures work and analysis of cell extracts.
  • High level of Spanish and English written and spoken. Catalan is a plus.
  • Skills in multidisciplinary project management emphasis in sample management
  • Advanced skills in scientific communication and writing (scientific reports scientific papers and public presentations)
  • People management skills and mentoring
  • Previous experience working with databases
  • Previous experience in the area of rare diseases will be valued.
  • Candidates with a strong publication record who are interested in applying for a Sara Borrell fellowship at GRENBA in the current call (2026) will be prioritized
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Temporary contract Next Generation linked to DM1-Hub project funded through a grant PMPER24/00007 from ISCIII for Research Projects on Rare Diseases from the 2024 Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science Innovation and Universities under the PERTE for Vanguard Health and within the framework of the Recovery Transformation and Resilience Plan.
  • Start of contract: 25 of March 2026.
  • 33000 euros gross per year.
  • Gross annual remuneration inherent to the square objected to this call will be fixed based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate distributed in 12 payments.
