The Maintenance Electrician is a full-time unionized position within the Facilities & Maintenance Department working days and evenings including weekends and statutory holidays in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.
This role is responsible for the installation inspection maintenance testing troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems throughout the hospital from main electrical distribution equipment to branch circuits lighting receptacles and connected devices. The successful candidate will ensure all electrical systems are maintained in a safe reliable and code-compliant manner consistent with the Ontario Electrical Code (OEC) Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) requirements applicable CSA standards and hospital policies and procedures.
In addition to electrical duties the Maintenance Electrician will perform general maintenance functions consistent with those of a Maintenance staff member supporting hospital operations across multiple disciplines within their training qualifications and demonstrated competencies.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and functional environment for patients staff physicians contractors and visitors.
Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.
Install maintain inspect test troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and components throughout the hospital.
Perform work on electrical distribution systems including main service equipment panels feeders branch circuits lighting receptacles and connected equipment.
Construct replace or repair electrical fixtures infrastructure and equipment in clinical non-clinical and support areas.
Respond to planned maintenance corrective work orders and emergency electrical events in a 24/7 healthcare environment.
Ensure all electrical work is completed in compliance with the Ontario Electrical Code (OEC) Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) requirements applicable CSA standards and hospital policies and procedures.
Participate in electrical safety practices including lockout/tagout inspections testing and hazard mitigation.
Accurately document work performed inspections and deficiencies in the hospitals computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Maintain clean safe and organized work areas at all times.
General Maintenance & Team Support
Perform general maintenance duties consistent with those of a Maintenance staff member in addition to electrical responsibilities.
Assist with maintenance activities across other trades and disciplines within the employees training qualifications and demonstrated competencies.
Support other skilled trades and hospital departments during maintenance activities inspections equipment moves room resets and emergency response.
Respond to non-electrical maintenance service calls where appropriate to support hospital operations and continuity of care.
Participate in after-hours weekend on-call and emergency response as required under the collective agreement.
Work collaboratively with Facilities & Maintenance staff clinical departments and approved contractors to minimize disruption to patient care.
Ensure all assigned duties are performed safely and in accordance with hospital policies applicable legislation and collective agreement provisions.
Valid Journeyperson Certificate in an electrical trade.
Valid Certificate of Qualification Electrician (309A preferred) in good standing.
Minimum five (5) years of recent electrical maintenance experience preferably in a hospital healthcare or other institutional environment.
Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems; experience with emergency power systems PLCs and building communications systems is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of electrical safety practices including arc-flash awareness and PPE requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a unionized team-based environment.
Proven ability to prioritize work assignments and respond effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Ability to stand walk bend kneel crouch and climb for inspection and maintenance activities.
Ability to lift up to 15 kg above shoulder height.
Ability to work in mechanical rooms ceilings confined spaces and clinical environments.
Required to wear and properly use all personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated.
Exposure to emergency and after-hours work in support of hospital operations.
Successful completion of a criminal background check including a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with hospital policy.
Maintenance of all required licenses certifications and qualifications throughout employment.
Participation in mandatory hospital training including but not limited to:
Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
Workplace Health & Safety
Emergency Management and Code Response
Compliance with all hospital policies procedures and collective agreement provisions.
