Definition of Position: The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is responsible to the laboratory manager or to the laboratory medical director. Duties will include clinical laboratory testing in microbiology chemistry hematology serology blood bank parasitology urinalysis or referred procedures. The MLS will maintain logs binders and records in accordance with the governing agency. They will confirm verify correlate and interpret results using in-depth knowledge of techniques principles instruments and physiology. They will share in performance of clinical lab functions associated with the lab. They will provide technical guidance and instruction to students interns residents staff and other employees as needed. The medical laboratory scientist has the authority to order questionable results rechecked to judge the adequacy of submitted specimens and to request another if original is unsatisfactory. May be required to perform special tasks including but not limited to: individual projects policy review creating new policies section head responsibilities serving on hospital committees or special task forces. Essential Job Functions: Evidence of continuing education is appropriate for the skill level and specific areas of practice. Demonstrates the ability to perform in technical clerical and interpersonal aspects of clinical lab services. Must be able to lift 50 lbs maximum frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Ability to communicate effectively. Able to perform laboratory test processing and understand differences in reference ranges of results from specimens received from pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients. Must be able to identify match and distinguish colors The employee supports the hospital mission vision values policies and procedures. Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum). Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education Required:Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory science program. Preferred: NA Licenses/ certifications/ registrations Required: MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Preferred: NA Experience Required: Prefer at least one year clinical/hospital laboratory experience. Preferred: NA
