Responsibilities Include:

  • As assembly process engineer lead R&D phase assembly automation equipment selection and solution development work closely with vendors and internal resource across functional teams to evaluate machine capability efficiency target to deliver low cost high automation level solution for mass production.
  • Lead component and module level die bonding process development with expert solution from investment and technical perspective.
  • Within the Global Process Development team located in Shenzhen lead the process development activities from development phase (Pre-Alpha and Alpha) to transfer to manufacturing (Beta and Post Beta)
  • Provide input to the design team on new products to guarantee product manufacturability and improve automation level (DFM DFA)
  • Own the technology transfer to designated manufacturing site (Lumentum and CMs) to establish manufacturing capabilities for beta and post beta phase in collaboration with the local operation teams
  • Own process development deliverables required for project milestones (FMEA process flow process control plan process qualification plan and report)
  • Define assembly yield and process capability targets and coordinate development and improvement activities to meet those targets
  • Develop specific process and equipment to establish new assembly technologies and enable the implementation of new product designs
  • Day to day analysis of process yield and capability (Cpk/Ppk) during the alpha beta and post beta phase and the implementation of corrective actions through A3/8D methodology
  • Preparation of specific process documentation (Work Instructions Validation Reports etc)
  • Lead failure analysis setup de-bug tree and troubleshooting instructions.
  • Responsible for internal factory or CM pilot line setup for Die bond/assembly process for new products support ramp up and smoothly transfer knowledge to operation.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or above major in Optics Electronics Semiconductors Material Science Mechanical Engineering Automation or equivalent technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • At least 8 years of experiences in R&D/NPI/manufacturing process sustain. Have more than 5 years Die bonding/assembly process related work experience.
  • Experience in automated production familiar with automation line development role and logic.
  • Team player; ability to work in a fast-paced multi-cultural environment with cross-functional teams
  • Self-motivated and able to take ownership of specific tasks and delivery on time
  • Production Operations Knowledge - Has a firm understanding of how complex production lines operate including key items such as industrial workings between facilities/departments line balance OEE error proofing etc.
  • Understanding of how the manufacturing validation process runs in relation to complex new products that stretch across various engineer teams and manufacturing centers/factories (methodology validation plans associated KPIs)
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings or CAD models
  • Strong interpersonal skills dealing with all levels of an organization. Able to effectively and confidently communicate to senior and executive level leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
  • Well versed with common workplace software (word processor spreadsheet database etc). Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; adverse in various problem-solving methodologies
  • Availability for regular travels to International Lumentum sites and external CM sites to work with Product Design and Manufacturing teams. This can include temporary assignments in the Manufacturing sites

Skills/Competencies Desirable:

  • Experience in team management is preferred
  • Optical components design and performance
  • Preference will also be given to candidates who can display an understanding of Kaizen (or similar) methodology
