Tekberry is seeking a Staffing Applications Engineer III (Packaging Engineer III) to support our client a global leader in materials science and advanced manufacturing technologies.
This senior-level engineering role focuses on the design development testing and implementation of advanced packaging solutions for a diverse portfolio of products including glass ceramics injection-molded components and optical products. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced packaging engineer who combines strong technical expertise with creativity sustainability awareness and cross-functional leadership.

Role Purpose
The Packaging Engineer III will lead packaging-driven initiatives that maximize product protection optimize cost enhance sustainability and ensure compliance with global regulatory and quality standards. This role collaborates extensively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver innovative high-performing packaging solutions aligned with company commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Design & Development
- Design and develop innovative cost-effective packaging solutions based on product requirements manufacturing capabilities customer needs transportation conditions and regulatory compliance.
- Support new and existing product packaging using corrugate recyclable plastics paper-based materials and other applicable materials.
- Lead packaging concept development from early design through implementation.
Testing & Validation
- Build packaging prototypes and plan execute and analyze test programs to validate packaging integrity durability and performance.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISTA ASTM and ISO.
- Define validation requirements and develop DOE (Design of Experiments) in collaboration with Quality Assurance.
- Prepare packaging specifications and manufacturing protocols to ensure product reliability.
Sustainability
- Evaluate and implement sustainable packaging materials and practices that align with corporate sustainability goals.
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance and cost targets.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D Manufacturing Global Supply Chain Commercial Logistics and other teams to improve packaging designs reduce costs and streamline processes.
- Lead and support packaging improvements for both new product introductions and existing product lines.
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Collaborate with packaging suppliers to source materials manage costs and ensure quality and availability.
- Interface with packaging solution vendors to identify develop and validate new packaging technologies.
- Partner with Global Supply Management (GSM) to support second-sourcing initiatives.
Documentation & Specifications
- Create and maintain detailed packaging specifications CAD drawings artwork and supporting documentation.
- Ensure documentation accuracy and version control for new and existing products.
Problem Solving & Compliance
- Provide technical support for packaging-related manufacturing issues and customer quality concerns.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety requirements (e.g. FDA EU REACH).
- Demonstrate packaging capabilities across manufacturing sites engineering teams sourcing partners and global stakeholders.
- Collaborate with North America Europe and Asia sites to ensure global alignment and project delivery.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Packaging Engineering Mechanical Engineering Materials Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in packaging engineering or closely related roles.
- Proficiency with packaging design and CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks AutoCAD).
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials manufacturing processes and testing standards.
- Excellent project management organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for a minimum of 18 months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) or similar certification.
- Experience supporting global manufacturing and supplier networks.
- Strong understanding of sustainability trends recyclable and renewable materials and regulatory considerations.
- Experience presenting technical solutions to internal and customer-facing stakeholders.
Travel Requirements
- 0 25% domestic and international travel depending on project needs.
- Travel is typically one week or less per trip to company facilities customer sites or supplier locations.
Work Environment
- 100% remote role with periodic travel.
- Workload may fluctuate from part-time to full-time depending on project phase and internal demand.
- Periods of low demand may occur between active project phases.
