Counseling In Schools (CIS) is seeking Success Mentors for multiple schools in Brooklyn NY.Mentor responsibilities are determined by what research shows are the most effective practices for engaging at-risk students and their families. These include personally greeting students upon arrival in the morning to make them feel welcomed and noticed engaging caregivers calling home when the mentee is absent and supporting culture and climate activities and events that encourage school attendance. Additionally Mentors connect students and families with a wide range of services to help them overcome barriers to school success and graduation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Flag mentees for early intervention before absenteeism escalates
- Collaborate with mentors to gather context and insights
- Work with mentors to develop attendance improvement plans
- Identify root causes (academic social family health motivation)
- Set clear goals benchmarks and follow-up timelines
- Coordinate supports and referrals as needed (school staff counselors family outreach)
- Maintain data and track interventions
Qualifications:
- Perfect for College Students or Retirees
- Must be able to pass a background check and DOE fingerprinting
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED - College Degree Preferred
- High energy and ability to connect with teenagers and maintain professional boundaries
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
