The Cancer Education Specialist plays a critical role in reducing the burden of cancer across the 30-county catchment area by delivering evidence-based education and prevention programs. Embedded in the community this position serves as a trusted partner to advance AHWFBCCCs mission through culturally responsive education outreach events and research engagement. The role fosters bi-directional relationships with community organizations healthcare providers and stakeholders to improve access to cancer-related services address barriers to care and ensure programs reflect local priorities. Through proactive education initiatives this position supports early detection promotes informed decision-making and strengthens participation in research and clinical trialsall guided by the loved one standard to ensure compassionate respectful interactions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION
Education:
o Bachelors degree with two years of relevant experience required.
o Masters degree in health administration business administration public health or related field preferred.
Experience:
o Minimum two years in project or program management development administration or supervisory roles.
o Experience in community health education or cancer prevention preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
o Valid drivers license required.
o CHES certification is preferred but not required.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development & Implementation:
- Design coordinate and evaluate community-based cancer education programs tailored to catchment area needs.
- Develop initiatives promoting prevention early detection and normalizing research.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable tasks timelines and measurable outcomes.
Community Engagement & Education:
- Represent AHWFBCCC at health fairs community events and coalition meetings.
- Lead and monitor education initiatives (e.g. CARES seminars COE signature events).
- Serve as liaison and spokesperson building long-term bi-directional relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
- Actively engage with the Community Advisory Board to integrate community input into programming.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Collect and analyze education and outreach data using REDCap or similar systems.
- Prepare reports for leadership and CCSG compliance including metrics for outreach and engagement.
- Ensure data integrity for institutional quality improvement and research support.
Safety Compliance & Patient-Centered Standards:
- Ensure adherence to institutional and sponsor regulations including National Cancer Institute requirements.
- Promote informed decision-making and ethical standards in education and engagement.
- Apply the loved one standard in all interactions to ensure compassionate respectful care.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Supervise interns and support personnel as needed.
- Develop educational materials presentations and digital tools to support education initiatives.
- Collaborate across Research Academics Clinical Operations and Education teams to integrate community insights into institutional priorities.

REPORTING OBLIGATIONS
The Cancer Education Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Cancer Outreach Education with a secondary reporting obligation to the Operations Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement.
