  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Florida - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • High School Education or equivalent preferred
  • Able to follow simple instructions to accomplish repetitive tasks
  • Able to perform mathematical and fortification calculations
  • Able to convert specific weights in an accurate and precise manner
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients families and co-workers
  • Basic proficiency in MS Word Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborates in a team environment

Job Summary

Delivers high quality sanitary and accurate milk orders. Responsible for maintaining a clean organized safe patient environment and assists with patient care activities such as taking vital signs feeding bathing and daily living activities. Collaborates with the healthcare team and provides compassionate and empathic family centered care for the patients and families.

Job Specific Duties

  • Responsible for communicating with medical nursing and nutrition team for clarifications and prioritization of expressed breast milk orders. F: Daily/ T: 3 hours R: Individual
  • Creates labels according to MCHS standards for expressed breast milk. F: Daily/ T: 30-60 minutes R: Shared
  • Sanitizes work area prior to and post preparation of milk. F: Daily/ T: 30 minutes R: Individual
  • Prepares labels and stores expressed breast milk in accordance with policy. F: Daily/ T: 3 hours R: Individual
  • Requisitions and inspects supplies and materials in order to maintain inventory levels and to ensure that standards of quality are met. F: Daily/ T: 30 minutes R: Individual
  • Arranges milk prep rooms for ease of product visibility and according to inspection standards (Food Safety & Sanitation EOC). F: Daily/ T: 30 minutes R: Shared
  • Rotates fresh milk to freezers to prevent expiration. Monitors prepared milk and discards if expired. F: Daily/ T: 60 minutes R: Individual
  • Measures/weighs fortification ingredients using a gram scale for powder products and a graduated cylinder beaker or sterile syringe for liquid products. F: Daily/ T: 3 hours R: Individual
  • Utilizes the standard recipe charts for preparation of human milk or uses the recipe provided in the comments section of the order. F: Daily/ T: 3 hours R: Individual
  • Utilizes aseptic technique for preparation of all special mixed milk or modulars for human milk. F: Daily/ T: 3 hours R: Individual
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to complete the preparation and distribution of milk F: Daily/ T: 60 minutes R: Shared
  • Follows appropriate storage time for opened products utilizing opened/expiration labels for all opened containers being stored. F: Daily/ T: 30 minutes R: Individual
  • Performs all delivery of expressed breast milk to patients room. F: Daily/ T: 45 minutes R: Individual
  • Responsible for properly utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). F: Daily/ T: 15 minutes R: Individual
  • Maintains necessary log books for utilization of donor human milk. F: Daily/ T: 30 minutes R: Individual
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing personal hygiene nutrition and comfort measures changing bed linens and diapers. F: Daily/ T: 10-30 minutes per patient R: Individual
  • Performs vital signs heights weights head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures. F: Daily/ T: 5-15 minutes per patient R: Individual
  • Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communications all significant changes in patient condition or behavior. F: Daily/ T: 5-10 minutes R: Individual
  • Restock supplies such as gloves gowns linen medical equipment assists with room preparation and turnover. F: Daily/ T: 5-30 minutes per room R: Individual
  • Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times. F: Daily/ T: 60-120 minutes R: Individual
  • Greets and welcomes patients families and visitors. Communicates information regarding MCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support. F: Daily/ T: Ongoing R: Individual
