Job Summary

DEFINITION:Under general direction the Community Resource Assistant provides broad outreach and administrative support on a variety of programs involving Public Housing residents Resident Leaders community stakeholders and other government agencies. The Community Resource Assistant should be aware of current local and federal news and events and general community concerns and may be asked to provide managers with regular updates on related news items. Performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Community Resource Assistant provides a wide range of outreach and administrative support to HACLA public housing residents Resident Leaders and liaises with external partners including advocates non-profits other government agencies and redevelopment partners on a wide-ranging area of functional responsibilities. The Community Resource Assistant builds and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders through professional communication and customer service. The incumbent may occasionally have to operate under periods of high pressure and critical time constraints and in an environment where priorities are constantly evolving and issues often emerge and change rapidly. The Community Resource Assistant works/liaises with a wide swathe of HACLA departments in the course of providing obtaining and transmitting support and information between HACLA and residents Resident Leaders Partners developers and Executive Management.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates all aspects of event planning implementation and follow up for a variety of events and meetings including but not limited to stakeholder and resident meetings redevelopment community meetings and RAC/HARAC meetings
  • Communicates with program partners regarding events budgets timelines contracts and community commitments.
  • Oversees processing of invoices and budget requests for department budget and/or third-party contracts with community and/or redevelopment partners
  • Provide clerical oversight of relevant programs including drafting agendas minutes maintaining files and developing flyers or other outreach materials.
  • Assists in conductingpublic meetings with stakeholders including transportation as needed.
  • Organize training sessions for residents and other specialized assistance as required.
  • Communicates information to residents and other stakeholders on various issues.
  • Coordinates resident outreach activities including distribution of information to residents.
  • May research curate and distribute daily online articles related to various housing topics in national and local news to HACLA Executive Management.
  • Assists with general office and program duties including answering phones takes messages routes calls and provides information as required.
  • Maintains a variety of office records and files.
  • Compiles routine data for Management.
  • Compiles and prepares various correspondence and documents for Management reports.

Knowledge of:Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to: Word Publisher Power point and Excel.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Organizing community meetings.
  • Articulate complex matters to large diverse audiences.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others.
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish) oral and written preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:Any combination of training education and experience which demonstrates the potential ability to perform the duties of the position; including a high school diploma or equivalent and up to two years of relevant work experience in community engagement in the Public Sector.
