Job Summary

Hope For Youth proudly offers a full-day accredited education program in two structured classrooms at our Amityville location. We also provide continued academic support to residents attending their local public schools. Our dedicated Education team-made up of both full-time and part-time staff-works closely with students throughout the academic year to help them succeed.

Beyond the classroom our education staff plays an active role in supporting residents as they work toward personal goals including internships vocational opportunities and meaningful community involvement.

Were excited to share that Hope For Youth currently has an opening for a Health & Wellness Teacher/Teachers Aide within our Education Program. This position reports to the Education Coordinator and offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the youth we serve.

To be a successful Health & Wellness Teacher/Teachers Aide you must be ready willing and able to do the following always:

  • Function with agencys policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual
  • Function within the agencys policy and procedures as outlined in the program guide and applicable codes of conduct
  • Achieve successful outcomes within guidelines outlined in NYS County and HFY policy and procedure (shared)

How you will generally spend your time in this job:

  • With guidance from the Education Coordinator plan and implement appropriate instruction/learning strategies and activities including determining appropriate kind and level of materials.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Teach knowledge of and develop skills and abilities in physical fitness coordination and agility exercise sports and health.
  • Supervise/monitor students behavior in the classroom
  • Organize and maintain a system of accurate and complete record-keeping lesson planning grading and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program and provide assistance as directed by teachers.
  • Participate in Education DES and NSD staff meetings
  • Perform other duties to be assigned. Including but not limited to HFYs after school STEAM program and any other regulatory obligations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED Bachelors Degree preferred
  • NYS Teaching certification preferred not required (efforts towards pursuit of NYS certification encouraged)
  • Physical Requirements: read/write reports and log entries walking/standing/sitting for prolonged periods bending/stooping kneeling/squatting climbing stairs reaching overhead repetitive wrist/finger movements ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work

This opportunity is being offered as Full-Time 33-hour work week 8:30AM 3:30PM
