It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution with a duty assignment to the medium/minimum custody facility. Work in this class provides first-line supervision for Correctional Officer IIs in a medium custody facility. Employee supervises officer activities and performance and ensures that the custody security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employee conducts shift line-up makes shift assignments to include duty area and post; and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position will complete review and maintain time reports duty rosters leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready and implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. At this level employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing.
Salary Range: $37782-$66120

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.EEO Statement
