Job Summary

TITLE: Elementary Principal

LOCATION: Oak Hill Elementary (Tiffin IA)

REPORTS TO: Superintendent/designee

JOB SUMMARY: The Principal is responsible for the direction of all personnel who perform their respective functions within the province of the building. This position will be opening a new elementary school building with the district. The Principal is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools/designee and is obligated to keep the Superintendent informed of all matters deemed pertinent and relative to the operation of the school unit. The Principal also performs a staff function serving in an advisory capacity to the Superintendent of Schools for all personnel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibility and Authority Delegated by the Superintendent:

  1. Coordinate and Supervise Curriculum Instruction and Assessment
    1. Curriculumsupervise and implement district curriculum
    2. Leads and makes suggestions to staff to implement effective practices to improve instruction.
    3. Building schedule--build and supervise a building schedule
    4. Work directly with Curriculum director to implement district curriculum
    5. Data based decision making
  2. Teachers/Support Staff
    1. Develop the professional capacity of school personnel
      1. Provide regular PD
      2. Collaborate with AEA staff to provide learning opportunities
      3. Collaborate with Leadership teams for school improvement
      4. Support PLC process at the building and district level
      5. Collaborate with Building Leadership teams
      6. Support and provide Social-Emotional learning
      7. Collaborate with Instructional Coach
      8. Initiates conversations about diversity and culture and the impact on student learning; corrects intolerant statements and behaviors. Builds capacity of staff
      9. Manage staff turnover and succession
      10. Walk throughs and fidelity checks
    2. Community
      1. Cultivate a culture of learning
      2. Communicate regularly
      3. Hold regular staff meetings
    3. Evaluation
      1. Follow district guidelines for teacher/support staff evaluation
      2. Guide and provide feedback for the Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDPs) for teachers
  3. School Improvement/Shared Vision
    1. Meet regularly with Building Leadership team to set goals and evaluate progress
    2. wide expectations for for students/staff
    3. Develop advocate and enact a shared mission vision and core values of high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student.
    4. Act ethically and according to professional norms to promote each students academic success and well-being.
    5. Involves stakeholders in the development or revision of school practices that promote equity and cultural responsiveness.
    6. Data based decision making
    7. Lead as a liaison for school activities and events
  4. Students
    1. Care/Support
      1. Social-emotional learning and support
      2. Attend 504/IEP meetings
    2. Discipline
      1. Student discipline system (PBIS)
      2. Entry of ODRs
      3. Communication of Discipline issues with families
      4. Enforcement of discipline policies and practices
  5. Families/Community
    1. Report testing data to stakeholders
    2. Report discipline data to stakeholders
    3. Regular communication with families
    4. Meeting with families and stakeholders as needed
    5. Attend/participate in School Improvement Committee (SIAC) Meetings
    6. Attend and/or collaborate with Parent Teacher Group (PTG) meetings
    7. Cultivate an inclusive caring and supportive school community
    8. Work regularly with district Communications Director
  6. Operations & Management
    1. Oversee/Manage Building Budget
      1. Regular communication with district business manager
    2. Facilities
      1. Room assignments
      2. Develop and maintain safety protocols
      3. Run regular safety drills
      4. Oversee cleanliness of building
      5. Regular communication with building engineer and district Facilities/Grounds Director
    3. Food Service
      1. Create lunch schedules
      2. Lunch supervision
      3. Work with building kitchen manager and district food service director
    4. Transportation
      1. Route discipline
      2. Schedule field trip transportation
      3. Work regularly with district Transportation Director
    5. Teachers/Support Staff
      1. Use district hiring practices to acquire certified and classified staff
      2. Approve Timecards
      3. Approve personal leave
      4. Manage schedule
      5. Manage hours
      6. Track/manage absences

Other Specific Responsibilities

    1. Attend regular board meetings and present when necessary
    2. District-level PLC

    6. Weekly Admin Meetings
    7. Attend and/or present district PD
    8. Supervise home football games as needed
    9. Work regularly with Director of Curriculum Director of Special Services Director of School Director of School Support Director of Buildings & Grounds Director of Communication and Superintendent to create a culture of learning and an environment for continuous improvement.
    10. Be up to date with all trainings
