About the Ummeed Walk
In 2011 two friends who enjoyed long walks happened to cover 55 km in a single day on the South Goa beaches. Impressed by what they had accomplished they decided to repeat the walk and invite friends to support Ummeed while doing it. The response was encouraging and this gave birth to the 55Km Walk for UMMEED.
Since then Ummeed has organised an annual 55Km Walk and Awareness event every January on the same beach in South Goa. For participants the Walk offers a mix of physical activity time in nature meeting like-minded people and contributing to a meaningful cause.
The route runs along the South Goa coastline where walkers start early in the morning and finish in the evening.
While 55Km is a long distance and many past participants have completed it with preparation and support. Each walker can decide the distance they are comfortable walking.
Irrespective of the distance walked each walker plays an important role in raising awareness about Ummeeds work and typically raises around INR 2 lakh or more. These contributions help maintain Ummeeds ongoing programs support new initiatives and fund areas that may not receive corporate sponsorship.
