A
Manager Environment for a Steel Companyoversees compliance sustainability and environmental impact managing air/water/noise monitoring waste ISO standards risk analysis and developing initiatives for climate/biodiversity ensuring the plant meets all regulations while driving efficiency and implementing green technologies requiring strong leadership technical knowledge of steel processes and liaison skills with management and external bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance & Monitoring:Ensure adherence to environmental laws; monitor air water noise and waste; manage permits and reporting.
- Strategy & Initiatives:Develop strategies for emissions reduction water conservation climate change and biodiversity; implement ISO 14001 standards.
- Risk Management:Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and risk analysis for new projects or changes.
- Operational Integration:Work with production maintenance and project teams to embed sustainable practices and improve resource efficiency.
- Reporting & Liaison:Generate environmental reports (MIS) for management and liaise with government bodies suppliers and internal teams.
- Technology & Innovation:Research and implement new technologies for pollution control and sustainable material usage.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education:Bachelors or Masters in Environmental Engineering Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Experience:Proven experience in environmental management within heavy industry ideally steel or mining.
- Technical Skills:Knowledge of steel plant processes (coal-based DRI rolling etc.) pollution control equipment and environmental software.
- Soft Skills:Strong leadership communication problem-solving and coordination skills; ability to drive change.
Typical Duties
- Oversee environmental management systems (EMS) and conduct audits.
- Manage effluent treatment plants (ETP) and air pollution control devices (APCDs).
- Plan and implement waste minimization and recycling programs.
- Train staff on environmental protocols and emergency response.
- Manage environmental budgets and track performance metrics.
