Clinical Pharmacology Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine at the Department of Public Health Faculty of Health University of Southern Denmark is offering a 3-year position within pharmacoepidemiology. The position is to be filled from April 1st 2026 or at the earliest convenient date thereafter.

The academic position
The successful candidate will work primarily within our portfolio of hypothesis-generating screening studies a methodological portfolio where we identify signals of interest from large real-world register data to guide the conduct of further studies according to principles of causal inference.
The specific focus of this project is to find unsuspected associations between prescription drugs and hospitals contact for non-infectious liver injuries. We will use the world-class populations based Danish data resources of prescription drugs and hospital contacts. Findings from the Danish analyses will be validated by similar analyses in data from the US Veterans Affairs.
The position entails a visit or research stay with our American partners at Rutgers University in New Jersey US. The successful candidate will be trained in advanced epidemiology.

Our department
The candidate will be part of the pharmacoepidemiological research group within the department of Clinical Pharmacology Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM).
The pharmacoepidemiology group is led by professors Jesper Hallas and Anton Pottegård. It comprises approx. 45 individuals and focuses on registry-based research covering all aspects of drug use drug effects and drug safety.
The group is highly regarded within pharmacoepidemiology and has a large international network. Furthermore we collaborate extensively with other groups including both clinical and basic pharmacology researchers as well as environmental medicine specialists.

The research interests of CPPEM span from pharmacoepidemiology to clinical studies and cell-based basic pharmacology and environmental medicine. Collectively CPPEM has a strong track record in pharmacoepidemiology pharmacogenetics pharmacokinetics drug-drug interactions therapeutic drug monitoring and exposure to environmental chemicals. Specifically the pharmacoepidemiological research group utilizes the world-class Danish registries as well as international data sources to assess pharmacological questions in large populations.
The translational pharmacology group aims to understand variability in drug toxicity drug metabolism and drug transport. Examples of this include cell-based models such as induced-pluripotent stem cells primary human hepatocytes and clinical studies.
The environmental medicine group study the impact of early life exposures to environmental particular per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a main focus area with studies of the adverse health effects of exposure biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities.
The analytical chemistry laboratory measures concentrations of drugs or environmental chemicals in various matrices.

Qualifications
The applicant is required to be fluent in English (written and spoken) hold a PhD degree within epidemiology or a related discipline and have a track-record within the field of observational research preferably within pharmacoepidemiology. Further experience with data science or AI will be preferred.

Further the candidate should contribute to a positive and constructive working environment by active participation and be open to interdisciplinary work across the width of the department and its collaborators.
