The Opportunity

A nurturing and highly inclusive primary school located in Brook Green is seeking an experienced and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Early Years and Key Stage 1 with a particular focus on children with autism communication difficulties sensory processing needs and developmental delay.

This role is ideal for an SEN TA who understands the importance of early intervention consistency and structured support in a childs formative years. You will work closely with young pupils who require clear routines visual support and calm emotionally attuned adult guidance to help them access learning and develop core skills.

Role Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant working in Early Years and KS1 your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 SEN support for young pupils with autism and additional needs

  • Supporting children in line with individual learning plans and EHCP-style targets

  • Helping pupils develop early communication attention and interaction skills

  • Supporting early literacy and numeracy through structured play-based learning

  • Assisting with sensory regulation and emotional development

  • Implementing visual timetables routines and structured activities

  • Supporting pupils during transitions between activities and environments

  • Encouraging independence while providing reassurance and guidance

  • Supporting pupils during playtime and lunchtime where needed

  • Working closely with class teachers and Early Years practitioners

  • Observing and recording pupil progress to support SEN planning

  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

This role requires warmth patience and a strong understanding of early childhood development within an SEN context.


The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who:

  • Has experience supporting young children with autism or additional needs

  • Understands the importance of routine structure and repetition

  • Is calm nurturing and emotionally responsive

  • Can engage young children through play-based and practical learning

  • Has strong communication skills and works well as part of a team

  • Is reliable consistent and committed to long-term SEN support

  • Has a genuine passion for Early Years and SEN education

Experience in EYFS or KS1 SEN roles is highly desirable.


Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant particularly with young children

  • Understanding of autism and early developmental needs

  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Availability for full-time long-term work
