About the role
Reporting to the Director of BYD Commercial Vehicles this role supports our dynamic Commercial Vehicles team by performing diagnostics maintenance and repairs on BYD commercial vehicles to ensure their safe and efficient operation with regular travel between BYDs Melbourne locations in Mulgrave and Dandenong South (office based in Mulgrave). As an Aftersales Diesel Mechanic your day-to-day responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine servicing inspections and complex mechanical repairs on diesel engines and associated systems.
Diagnostics: Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
Warranty & Aftersales Support: Complete warranty repairs and accurately document service activities.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all workplace health and safety standards and BYD guidelines during repair and maintenance tasks.
Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with customers and service teams to explain repairs and provide technical advice.
Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs including EV technology modules to stay current with emerging vehicle systems.
Requirements:
Education: Minimum Automotive Trade Certificate or Certificate IV qualification.
Experience: Minimum of 35 years experience in a technical support or aftersales role within the automotive or bus industry.
Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude diagnostic proficiency and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Drivers License: Essential. HR licence preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
EV (Electric Vehicle) training or experience highly desirable.
Completion of Australian EV training certifications such as:
AUR32721 Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology
Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set (AURSS00064)
MTA EV Technician Programs
Key Competencies:
Technical expertise in commercial vehicles.
Strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Commitment to safety and quality standards.
Ability to adapt to new technologies including EV systems.
Working Conditions:
Travel:Occasional travel may berequiredto customer sites dealerships or training locations.
Hours:8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday or as agreed with the manager. There may be occasions where the role requires work outside standard hours or days to fulfil role responsibilities.
