Job Goal:
The Texas Mathematics Academies Specialist provides professional development technical assistance and program support to school districts participating in the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Mathematics Academies initiative. This position supports the improvement of mathematics instruction and leadership capacity across the Region 6 service area through coaching training and implementation support aligned with TEA requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Bachelors degree in mathematics or education or related field required
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching mathematics in public education
Experience in mathematics instructional coaching and/or professional learning required
Experience supporting campus or district instructional improvement preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for K-5 mathematics
Knowledge of effective mathematics instructional practices
Understanding of adult learning principles
Strong presentation facilitation and interpersonal skills
Ability to analyze instructional and student performance data
Proficiency with technology applications and virtual learning platforms
Strong organizational and communication skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Implementation and Support
Support the implementation of the TEA Mathematics Academies in alignment with state requirements
Assist districts and campuses in understanding and applying Mathematics Academies frameworks and expectations
Provide technical assistance to participating districts to support fidelity of implementation
Professional Learning and Coaching
Plan and deliver high-quality professional development related to mathematics instruction and leadership
Provide job-embedded coaching to campus administrators instructional coaches and teachers
Facilitate professional learning communities and academies sessions as assigned
Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with TEA staff Region 6 ESC colleagues and district personnel
Participate in required state and regional meetings related to Mathematics Academies
Communicate program updates expectations and timelines to participating districts
Data Monitoring and Reporting
Collect analyze and report data required by TEA and Region 6 ESC
Monitor district participation and progress toward program goals
Maintain accurate documentation and records for program compliance
Other Duties
Support other Region 6 ESC initiatives as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned by the Component Director
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Frequent travel within the Region 6 service area
Occasional evening work
Prolonged periods of standing sitting and computer use
